"Goodbye Fortunado," Montresor yells with a slight feeling that Fortunado will respond.

Fortunado however, was in no luck, he could not respond. Fortunado was dead, and the catacombs were filled of silence. Revenge seemed like a victory to Montresor, until..he walked away and realize there was no going back. This guilt Montresor built up led him to confess, he was not equipped to handle keeping the truth to himself. Slowly, the secret, the crime Montresor had committed was eating away at him, and he had to let out this pain. One day his former worker was minding his own business singing and working, and all of a sudden.. Montresor says,"You must stop singing, you must hear me, you must listen to me."

Tressor in shock said," I am all

Montresor was set for disaster because he did not know Tressor was Fortunado's wife's cousin, and he was going to betray him. Tressor is very smart, and clever, he pretends to support Montresor, and he says he will help him with anything he can, but really he is going to ruin his life for what he had done. Tressor will wait until a month has passed by to tell his cousin the truth, this way Montresor will not figure him out. A month later.. Tressor decides that it was time to tell his cousin the truth about the horrific way her husband was killed. As he walks towards his cousin's palazzo Tressor realizes he is being followed, glancing over his shoulder the shadow on the ground match that of Montresor. Tressor upturned to where Montresor was standing but pretended he did not see Montresor and attempted to keep walking. However, that did not work because Montresor had spotted Tressor for a while now, curiously watching where he'd stop. "Tressor! Tressor! Tressor!" yelled

"I promise, I will only take a small amount of your time," noted Montresor.
"Let's hear it then," requested Tressor.
"I am wondering to whom you are going to pay a visit to, it seems to me as if you were walking towards the palazzo of that Fortunado?" Montresor implied.
"Well, yes Montresor I am, I have to help my cousin complete a job for the wife of Fortunado," Tressor mischievously replied.
"Alright Tressor, I will see you later," noted Montresor.
Montresor did not fall for this substantial lie, he was going to figure out the truth with or without the answers of Tressor. Montresor walked away from the conversation with Tressor, and dissimulated as if he was walking back towards his home. However, he sneakily followed Tressor to the palazzo, and watch as he walked towards Fortunado's wife. Montresor hears Tressor greet Fortunado's wife and say,"Hello cousin, how are you?" This statement led Montresor to open his eyes and realize Tressor was going to betray him, and he was planning to do it at a very soon occasion..Montressor in a wink had to think of what to do, he called one of the palazzo workers over to where he was standing.
"Hey! Hey! You there!" Montresor

To add on, I also believe that Montresor is bragging about his crime because of his actions. For example, (179) the text explains, “ The noise lasted for several minutes, during the image of Montresor stopping his work...” Montresor enjoyed the sound of Fortunato struggling with the chains, so he sat down on his pile of bones and watched Fortunato, to him it was success.…

Montresor baits Fortunato by using his weakness, the love of wine. Another weakness he displays is his ego and Montresor knows this. It doesn 't take much for him to be baited into sampling his supposed newly acquired pipe of amontillado. During the trip in the catacombs Montresor compels him many times to return to the surface because of his cold, but Fortunato being drunk and a fool wants to be the one to sample the amontillado. He fails to understand the foreshadowing that Montresor provides him with the mason 's trowel, even when he asks about the Montresor coat of arms. "A huge human foot d 'or, in a field azure; the foot crushes a serpent rampant whose fangs are imbedded in the heel" (Poe 208). He must not have realized how serious Montresor takes his pride. When he finally has him chained to the wall he is very shocked. His disbelief that his friend lured him to his death leaves him practically speechless. He quickly sobers up and begins to moan and cry, then to pull at the chains trying to escape then in a last ditch effort he begins to scream. Either in hopes that someone would hear him and come to his rescue or upon the realization that he is about to die. He knows that this is no joke, but he gives Montresor a chance at redemption by pretending that it is. Unfortunately whatever insult Fortunato had given, it leads to his demise. In the end all he can do is beg…

Montresor shows his slickness when he first greets Fortunato with compliments like “you are luckily met” and “How remarkably well you are looking today” (p.374). Though he doesn't realize that it is a trap, he takes the bait.…

His emotional response was of controlled anger. Montresor may have had anger but it was hidden anger. Montresor didn’t show it in anyway to hint that he had loathing boiling inside him. He expressed this by saying, “ The thousand injuries of Fortunado I had borne as I best could; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed my revenge”. Montresor was a very solemn man, for he would not show his greatest anger, but he will avenge what caused it. This is stated when he said, “You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that I gave utterance to a threat. At length I would…

One of these is evident at the start. As soon as the narrator, Montresor speaks his first line, it is obvious that he is fed up with his friend, Fortunato. He later on goes to say that he never gave Fortunato even a clue that he is mad at him. This shows that he has decided now is the time to strike, and once he has committed, by leading Fortunato down into the catacombs, he can really not go back, seeing as his lie would fall apart, and Fortunato would realize there is no Amontillado. When Fortunato states that a cold will not kill him, and Montresor responds with “True”, it gives readers an inkling that there is a more devious plan in the making. He also orders his servants to all leave the house, seeing as he will be passing through his apartment on the way to the catacombs. This implies that he doesn’t want them seeing him for some reason, and as the story progresses you figure out that it is because he does not want to be traced back to the disappearance of…

"The thousand injuries at the hands of Fortunato I had borne as best I could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge" (Poe, 173). Montresor is so convinced of the righteousness of his convictions that he "must not only punish but punish with impunity" (Poe, 173). Montresor also states how he must not fail to "make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong" (Poe, 173). Montresor's words prove how his prideful obsessions have deluded his mind enough to believe that Fortunato's wrongs justify his agonizing death. Furthermore, Montresor believes he should go unpunished for his…
