Formative Vs Summative Assessment
The assessment plan created in EDFO 483, accurately utilized a variety of methods to assess students. Assessments are a critical portion of the learning process that provides teachers with important information and data that is used to optimize learning. In EDFO 483, the knowledge of how importance it is for an effective teacher to use both a formative and summative assessment was stressed. With this knowledge, the formative assessments and the summative assessments were added to the lesson plan and the assessment plan. The importance of a two-way chart and the benefits of utilizing this tools was taught in EDFO 483. Because of the new knowledge, the two-way chart was included in the assessment plan. In the clinical class at Oakland Elementary School, the use of formative and summative assessments were observed on several different occasions. The host teacher employed formative assessments for a variety of subjects when she observed students as they worked on two-digit multiplication, as they prepared study guides for a social studies assessment, and as …show more content…
The benefits of this assessment plan is great. The formative assessments provides the teacher with a means to check for understanding and a means to collect data that can be used to reformulate teaching, decide what material to reteach, and create learning activities to help students gain better knowledge. The summative assessment in this plan provides crucial data to use to assign grades, to see how students compare to others, and to see what new knowledge students need to gain. Finally, the two-way chart visually demonstrates how the objectvies correlate to the assessments, at which cognitive level each objective was assessed, and that the learning objectives in the lesson plan are reflected in the teaching and the

    As a teacher, to reach the ultimate goal of student competency, one must consistently check that each individual student is understanding and comprehending the lessons being taught.     Also, I would give them the chart of strength, interest, and learn needs. I would let them do an assessment on their selves so I know where we have to work at. I would create a chart about strength, interest, and learning needs on a chart that way I can monitor my students who have the problem with the assignment.
