A Man’s Best Friend
“Dog are not our whole life, but they our live whole.” Last year around Christmas time, was a day that I will cherish forever. It was around sunset, when my father came from work and brought a little cage with him, I didn’t know at the time but it would change my life. Inside that cage was cutest thing I had ever seen. It was a puppy! He had little frown face and with his bright gold fur with the softest paws that I had ever felt. My dad told me “If you don’t take good care of him I will give him away.” He was the most adorable golden retriever ever.

To begin with I had to give him a name. The first thing that came up to my mind was Simba. Because he reminded me of the Lion King. I knew that Simba was going to be big responsibility. Simba was like a baby, I had to feed him, clean up after his mess, and clean after he goes to the bathroom. He was like my own child. For example I have schedule when to feed him. It started when I would wake up, I would take him to the bathroom. Next I would feed him at 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Also I had to teach him respect. Another example is that one day I was walking my dog in the” park. Then Simba spotted a bird and got very excited and broke the leash and took off running. I screamed “SIMBA NO!” So I ran as fast I could to catch him. Then my dog stopped. I was shocked because he knew angry I was. After I caught up to him I calm myself down. And told him not to do that again. I wonder if he listen to me so I let him go without leash and he didn’t even move. Then he looked at me waiting for me to say something. I respond by saying “Good Boy!”

In conclusion, having a dog was turning point with my life. But it is about growing up and having responsibility. I can't imagine how hard it is to raise a child. The lesson I learned is that having dog can have a positive impact to our life. Also teach us about responsibility and caring for someone else. I feel that if I didn’t have a

It all began when a was a little boy and all I wanted was a dog, for years I begged and begged, and still no dog. I felt as if I was incomplete without one, I had even written persuasive essays in school on why I should get a dog and waited and just hoped for it. Finally, when I was in 5th grade, I found a church ministry where we met once month and came up with ideas to raise money for the local rescue. During the meetings, we would also go for a walk, those who had animals would walk them. One time, somebody from the rescue came with one of the rescue dogs for the walk, which inspired me to go to the rescue and check it out.…

It was a relaxing day at home in the Helfman household. My mom was constantly jabbering on the phone, my dad’s eyes were glued to his computer working, and my brother was stuck to his bed and never got up. My brother, Danny had gotten into Syracuse University a few months earlier and he was ecstatic about the life he was going to make for himself. Danny and I got along well our whole lives, but we weren’t as close as some other siblings. This upset me because sometimes all I wanted to do was talk to my brother and get his advice. I have three dogs. My dogs Sadie, Tootsie, and Lucky are cuddly and soft toy poodles.…

I really enjoyed reading My Life in Dog Years. I am also a dog lover so I could relate completely to Paulsen’s point of view. I wish I could be around dogs as much as he is in this story. The dogs just seem to come out of nowhere and are attracted to him. I think that this book is a good book for children to read that is realistic fiction because it was realistic but there weren’t really any controversial issues. I enjoy that this book is an autobiography about his relationship with dogs, not just stories about dogs. I think it is important that he showed how pets could affect your life directly. I think this book shows that pets are good companions and can change your life.…

Getting a dog was the best thing I ever did. And the greatest joy of all was the unforeseen privilege of witnessing the changing seasons, day by day, leaf by leaf. I had prepared myself for the practicalities of welcoming a dog into my life. I had obviously also thought about the fact that she would need walking, whatever the weather. But I hadn’t fully envisioned the reality of that fact, the overwhelming gratitude I would come to feel towards her for getting me out of the house every day. In the dark and the buffeting storms. In sideways rain and pelting hail. Never have I felt more alive and more a part of nature. I am lucky enough to live near a small wood which naturally became the obvious place to roam with my dog and in those woods I saw nature unfurl before my very eyes. In subtle and big ways, in…
