forgiveness
As used in the scriptures to forgive generally means one of two things: 1-When God forgives men he cancels or sets aside a required punishment for sin. Through the atonement of Christ forgiveness of sins is available to all who repent, except those who are guilty of murder or the unpardonable sin against the Holy Ghost 2- As people forgive each other they treat each other with Christlike love and have no bad feelings towards those who have offended them. Matt 5:43-45, Luke 17:3-4, Nephi 7:19-21

here are some thoughts on forgiveness from a talk by President Faust:
If we can find forgiveness in our hearts for those who have caused us hurt and injury we will rise to a higher level of self esteem and well being,Forgiveness is freeing up and putting better use the energy once consumed by holding grudges, harboring resentments and nursing unhealed wounds. It is rediscovering the strengths we always had and relocating our limitless capacity to understand and accept other people and ourselves. Most of us need time to work through pain and loss. We can find all manner of reason for postponing forgiveness. One of the reasons is waiting for the wrongdoer to repent before we forgive them. Yet such a delay causes us to forget the peace and happiness that could be ours. Rehashing long past hurt, does not bring happiness.

Joseph Smith gave us many examples of forgiveness. I would like to tell you about one of them. William W Phelps,A member of his Stake Presidency, had financial problems and unrepentanted heart. He became bitter and left the church. He became an enemy to the prophet.
During this time of intense persecution William Phelps came forth as a state witness against the prophet. He signed a certificate defending the action of one of the saints worst enemies.
The Prophet and other brethren were put in jail—they eventually escaped. While Joseph Smith was In jail, he had many people betray him, including ones he loved and trusted

In resisting this evangelical reformism, Smith and Matthias separately attacked the domineering views advanced by the Finneyite evangelicalism and were central to the hostility that grew towards Finneyite reformers in late 1820 and 1830s.…

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of forgive is to stop feeling angry or resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, or mistake. However, there is a deeper meaning to this. Contrary to some of Harold S. Kushner’s statements, I believe that forgiveness is as beneficial for the victim of the crimes as it is for the offender. In fact, I am far more inclined to agree with Jose Hobday’s views. He states that…

In Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, on the Twelfth Tuesday Mitch and Morrie talk about forgiveness. Morrie’s aphorism is, “Forgive yourself before you die. Then forgive others” (164). I believe that Morrie is trying to express that you must forgive yourself for the things that you regret in your life, then you will be able to forgive the people that hurt you. For example, Morrie had a friend named Norman and him and his wife moved away and never called to see how Charlotte was doing after surgery. Morrie never forgave Norman although, Norman tried numerous times to reconcile with Morrie but, Morrie never forgave him. Morrie also says, “Mitch, we need to also forgive ourselves.” Morrie expresses that we must forgive ourselves for all the…
