Even after he had said that he knew “hardly a soul” around where they were, she continued questioning him, verifying his lack of knowledge by asking, “then you know nothing about my aunt?” (185). In The One That Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey the nurses’ assistants have a unique initiation for the newcomers. The newcomers of the mental institute did not know what was coming when they walked through that door. The nurses’ assistants led them into the showers and inserted thermometers into their rectum and before they did that they turned on all the showers to muffle their screams. We chose this scene since not only it shows the cruelty that can go on in these types of institutions and its ability to describe effortlessly of the resident’s pain when they first come in. The set design in the shower scene is very simple and doesn’t need many elaborate props. The lighting in the scene is very dark, to show how chilling the scene is in the book. The cinematography shows how the scene looks with a high definition look to it.…

The advancement of technology over the last decade has been used to further security methods in society. Devices such as surveillance systems in stores have caught suspects and decreased crime, but only by a mere 0.05% (specifically in Chicago, which currently has 15,000 cameras throughout the city). So, does this implementation of surveillance really make people behave? The texts “Panopticism” by Michel Foucault and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey both focus on how to make people behave. Foucault's theory explains that if surveillance is used on people in seclusion, the authorities will claim ultimate control. Kesey’s novel challenges this theory once new ward member McMurphy is transferred in, as he provokes Nurse Ratched and…

In her story “The Stolen Party”, Liliana Heker uses foreshadowing to illustrate how life boundaries between the social classes can’t be overcome, even with friendship. She first settle that idea of boundaries in the beginning when Rosaura has a conversation with her mother about going to the birthday party of her “friend” Luciana, who is the daughter of her mother’s employer. Rosaura is convinced she can be friends with Luciana even if she’s way more wealthy than her, but her mother isn’t that naïve. Rosaura’s mother told her “That one’s not your friend” and that all she really is to those people is “the maid’s daughter, that’s what.” Heker drew attention to the mother’s warning about the rough reality and the way Rosaura doesn’t believe her…

In the beginning Vera meets Framton Nuttel who is trying to overcome a nerves problem. She lies and tells Mr.nuttle that her aunt Mrs.sappleton had a “ great tragedy happened just three years ago” then Vera goes into details saying that “...her husband and two brothers went off for their daily shooting. They never came back... That is why the window is kept open every evening till it is dusk.”(lines 35-45). The fake story that Vera told Mr.Nuttel wasn’t a respectful thing to do and made it hard for him to control his nerves. In lines 77 when Mrs.Sappleton “here they are at last!” Framton “shivered slightly” and swung his seat in a “chill shock of nameless fear” looking in the direction of where they were coming from. Framton ends up “wildly” grabbing his stick and hat and running out of Mrs.sappleton house. With that being said, Vera affected Mr.Nuttel in a negative way because instead of his curing his nerves problem he left in a worse condition. Where he might not ever be able to cure his condition or it might be even harder to do so. In “ A Sound Of Thunder” Ray Bradbury shows that when being honest it's good to give the whole truth without holding anything back. When Eckels was going to the past the “ man behind the desk” was very clear on the risks he was taking going on this trip. When the man tells Eckels to “sign this release. Anything happens to you, were not responsible. Those dinosaurs are hungry.” then goes on saying “...six safari leaders were killed last year and a dozen hunters.” Moreover, the man behind the desk was being utterly honest with Eckel with holding anything back for example when he says “those dinosaurs are hungry” and informs Eckel how many safari leaders and hunters died on this trip. The man does this so that Eckel will know that there's an vast…
