Ford Vs Chevy
Are you a Chevy or a Ford person? Chevy and Ford are the two main competitors in the truck industry and are constantly trying to get the edge over the other company. There are three main points that someone usually looks at when buying a new truck from either Chevy or Ford-the durability, price, and how both the exterior and the interior looks along with how comfortable it is.
One of the first points that someone looks at when buying a truck from Chevy or Ford is the durability. One of the most important parts of a truck is considered to be the bed. Chevy uses a high-strength steel bed in their trucks which is stronger and therefore isn’t as susceptible to holes and dents as Ford beds are. Chevy also has steel mixed with other metals in their truck body and frame which prevents the truck from bending as easily as other bodies built with different materials. Chevy’s high-strength steel truck body and frame is thirty times as strong as Ford’s aluminium body and frame. Ford on the other hand uses aluminium in their bed. Although Ford also uses steel in their frame the main component that they use in their truck body is aluminium due to its lightweight. All in all Chevy wins the durability factor.

When it comes to the exterior look of a Chevy truck, Chevy sticks with the same style the whole way around the truck. Chevy keeps with the body color of the truck for the most part with the exception of the grill, door handles, rims, etc. in which they use chrome. On the interior Chevy keeps all their buttons within easy access along with a nice interior. Meanwhile, Ford uses chrome on most of the truck. Ford has a nice car-like interior, but their buttons are not easily accessible. Therefore Chevy wins the looks and comfort

Ford and Chevy are as American as apple pie. However, as any car fanatic knows. They are as big of rivals as the North and the South used to be. Two rival models of Ford and Chevy, in particular, is the Ford Mustang Shelby GT and the Chevy ZL1 Camaro. The Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang are quintessential American pony cars and as such, continue to fight the war over which sport utility vehicle is the best in performance. I recently became interested in cars and the whole racing aspects of them because my best friend races once in a while. He is extremely knowledgeable and interested in cars and can tell which car is the best. Becoming a huge car fanatic like him, I have to “pick a side” and decide which car I would go with the Mustang or the Camaro. The two features that I would take in to consideration in deciding which car is better than the other one is the performance that it has to offer and the style that it resembles.…

As you might expect, aluminum is much lighter than steel. While weight isn't usually a huge factor when it comes to shopping for truck beds, a lighter bed does offer some benefits. Perhaps the biggest benefit of a lighter truck bed is better gas mileage. Since the truck isn't being weighed down with heavy steel, your truck will get better gas mileage. Although a simple benefit, it can be very helpful. After all, better mileage means you'll be spending less on gas – which ultimately saves you money.…

Despite of the recent downturn in the economy, Ford remains a competitive force in automobile manufacturing market. Certain factors exist that strengthen the company’s brand and product. For example, Ford Motor Company is the top 4th largest car manufacturing entity in the world (Ford, 2011). The company has 90 manufacturing plants worldwide, 7,000 supplier facilities that distribute vehicles in six continents, and all 50 U.S. states (Ford, 2011). Ford has a strong presence in the market and is easily recognized worldwide with the slogan “Built Ford Tough” as the company motto (Ford, 2011). The company keeps a competitive advantage by following innovative trends that attract the attention of more consumers. One of these trends focuses on fuel efficiency, brought on by the current deteriorating economic state. Ford’s fuel-efficient lineup increased sales by 19% since the launch in 2009 (Ford, 2011). Even the less economic models are still in demand because of their design, durability, and versatility. The Ford-F150, Ford’s most popular vehicle, is the current top seller on the market for this year…

To have success in a competitive environment you have to have the right mindset. Managers often view the competitive environment as a hostile battle for dominance. According to Michael Porter this is the wrong way to view the competitive market. A company should aim to be unique not the best. The heart of competition is creating value, and not beating the rivals. (Magretta and Porter, 2011) This should be Ford’s focus moving forward. The Aluminum body truck is a good example of being unique and creating value. With the hybrid car craze in full effect, Ford had to find a way to increase their competitiveness. Instead of focusing on engine efficiency they found a way to increase fuel efficiency through weight reduction. Companies have attempted to achieve this before with material such as fiberglass, or even plastics. Ford took a different approach using military-grade aluminum alloy. This kept the safety of the consumer in mind while increasing efficiency. Although this technology is more costly, the savings is passed to the consumer, and is spread out over the lifetime of the vehicle(ex. fuel savings). Moving forward Ford should try to extend this technology beyond the F series truck line. Aluminum alloy is the auto body of the future, and Ford is paving the way. To maintain competitiveness and help squash the competitive rivalry they…
