Football At Carlisle Summary
This article was very interesting. It really applies to my honors essay and was a great in-depth desciption into Football at Carlisle. During football documentaries, the early portion of football history always talks in great detail about the successes of Harvard and Yale, accounting their great rivalry and historical relevance. This article takes a different perspective focusing on the successes of the Carlisle football team. The article states, “By 1907, the Carlisle Indians were the most dynamic team in college football.” I found this quote to put in perspective the impact of football at Carlisle. The next sentence states that Carlisle started to incorporate the forward pass, the overhand spiral, and multiple trick plays. All to those aspects

Cameron Jerrell Newton, or Cam as he is better known, was born on May 11, 1989 to Cecil Newton Sr. and Jackie Newton (Levin). It is probably a fair statement to say that Cam hails from a football centered family, as his dad had experience in the NFL, and his brother, Cecil Newton Jr., currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL (Levin). He is originally from College Park, Georgia, and attended Westlake High School (Gene). While in high school, his exploits on the football field earned him a coveted five-star rating, which constitutes him as one of the top thirty high school football in the United States of America in 2007(Gene). At this point, Cam chose to further his career at the University of Florida. However, he was forced to leave the University of Florida when he was convicted on charges of stealing another student’s laptop (Florida).…

In 1987 the National Collegiate Athletic Association (N.C.A.A.) placed its harshest football punishment in history on Southern Methodist University (S.M.U.). The repeat violator rule, also known as the “death penalty,” banned the college from playing football for all of the 1987 and only allowed to play seven games in its 1988 season. They used S.M.U. as an example of what could happen when a college excessively violates N.C.A.A. regulations. The death penalty was the last option for the university because they were already on probation for past major violations with N.C.A.A. ("SMU Football Gets," 1987, p. 1C). The only thing left of S.M.U. after receiving ‘death’ was pick up the pieces and they are still trying to put the sport back together after so many years.…

    Hoosiers, Film Analysis

Let me first begin by saying I am a huge sports fan. I played almost every sport growing up and have always loved watching sports, in particular college basketball and any type of football. I saw Hoosiers a few times growing up and enjoyed it every time. In my opinion it is one of the greatest sports movies of all time. The acting of Gene Hackman is definitely an Oscar winning performance. Even though this is not based on a true story it is very believable to me that this event could have occurred, and for that reason it enhances the emotion I feel when they fight through diversity and win the state championship. All of the above are the reasons I chose this film, I knew I would enjoy it and enjoy writing about it.…

The football team from Mountain View High School won the Arizona State Championship last year. Again. Unbeknownst to the vast majority of the school’s student body, so did the Science Bowl Team, the Speech and Debate Team, and the Academic Decathlon team. The football players enjoyed the attentions of an enthralled school, complete with banners, assemblies, and even video announcements in their honor, a virtual barrage of praise and downright deification . As for the three champion academic teams, they received a combined total of around ten minutes of recognition, tacked onto the beginning of a sports assembly. Nearly all of the graduating seniors will remember the name and escapades of their star quarterback; nearly none of them will ever even realize that their class produced Arizona’s first national champion in Lincoln-Douglass Debate. After all, why should they? He and his teammates were “just the nerds.”…

The Southern Methodist football team deserved the death penalty because of their athletic booster’s use of bribery to recruit the best players in the nation. Southern Methodist University, a private university located in Dallas, Texas, is not one that many people hear of. Despite being located in a big town with a boom in economy, SMU was a long shot from being the conference champion. They needed someone to bring them back from a shadow of tough losses during the 1960s and 1970s, not to mention the competition they had to face while being in the…

Opening statements: Playoff time, it is something that stirs excitement among fans of almost any sport, it is what teams play for all season, and it is perhaps the most exciting time of any sport season. But this exicitement is something that has always been missing in Division I football, and it is something that makes the game unfair for many teams. At the beginning of the season all teams join the hunt for the coveted national championship, they face many roadblocks, some of which have nothing to do with their opponents. Did you realize that a team can win every single game and still fall short of getting into the national title game? Or did you realize that destiny lies in the hands of voters and computers?…
