First Impression: The Big Cheese Italian Restaurant lives up to its name. When you first drive up, the parking spaces are tight and the area is very crapped. But once you are seated and begin your dining experience you forget about all the things that are not ideal and enjoy the delicious meals that comes at the right time. For starters, the boys wanted Calamari ($9.95), 12- Wings ($9.95) and the adults had Caesar Salad-Full Order ($9.95). We knew immediately that we were in trouble with the amount of food that was placed on the table in front of us. The Calamari was fresh and not chewy according to the boys, it didn’t last long enough for the adults to taste. The Caesar Salad was absolutely phenomenal. The full size serving feed all three adults and the boys. The lettuce was nice and crisp, the hint of anchovy was just enough to have the essence hit the taste buds with just the right amount of bite. The cracked pepper gave it the right amount of spice and the dressing was sufficient to cover without drowning out the croutons. The addition of red onions to the salad enhanced the overall taste of the salad and we had a hard time stopping.…

Today, many Americans constantly worry about the effect of their eating habits on their weight and health. However, for much of the nineteenth century, most Americans were rarely concerned with the nutritional quality of their meals, and instead focused on eating as much as possible. According to Harvey Levenstein, author of Revolution at the Table: The Transformation of the American Diet, the inception of present-day eating habits has its roots in the “eating revolution,” which occurred between the 1880s and 1930s. At the turn of the twentieth century, the American middle class began to eat much more “economically and healthily,” than they had in the past. Levenstein attributes this change in food habits to both economic and social factors,…

A writing by Michael Pollan, “The Futures of Food”, explains the timeline of food throughout history and the different beliefs on what the future has in store for food. In the past, people viewed the futures of food as everything in one, or a pill. By the mid-1960s, people were well on their way to a “synthetic food future” (Pollan 1). By this point, TV dinners had been developed, and were used by mothers so they were not making multiple meals to please all their children.…

Food deserts is a serious topic that communities need to consider looking into. Residents are struggling to obtain healthy food because they are isolated from the urban areas. Ideally they are low-income and do not own a car or access to public transportation meaning getting around places is a challenge. According to the “Food Empowerment Project’s”, they stated that high incomed districts have three times of accessible supermarkets as low incomes locations. As they specifically mentioned that in white neighborhoods, they have at least four time as many supermarkets compared to black neighborhoods. Daniel Weintraub, in the article,”The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home”, wants his public to realize that ultimately parents need to take good responsibility for their children’s actions and I completely agree with his conclusions. Weintraub discusses many points, for example, parental faults, school issues, and societies fault, to prove that obesity in children is an issue that cannot be overlooked. Weintraub’s points along with my personal experiences led me to agree that responsibility and child obesity go hand in hand. Of course this is my opinion, but I believe that his article mostly goes out to the parents who are lazy and have children.…

    The Future of Food

After viewing the movie “The Future of Food”, I believe that food one day will be controlled completely. Biotechnology is taking over thus, more foods will be stripped of their natural abilities that the human body benefits from. Genetically engineered food is killing us slowly with pesticides and other unhealthy poisonous stuff being added to them. With that said, the future does not look good. In due time, organic food companies will be no more. The quantity of food might rise due to biotechnology but, more will occur. It would be like a mass murder if disease spread like wild fire after biotechnology took over. With biotechnology, the quantity overpowers quality. If more food is being made with less quality and more into quantity with the help of poisoning molecules to breed more, then the food is not really healthy. Anything man-made such as pills, technology, and even food, is unhealthy for humans. Pills gets people addicted. People get addicted to pain killers and other pills such as Aspirin. Basically, food is an addiction yet it is essential for survival. With Biotechnology, people will be supplied more of what they want but, they will be more susceptible to bacteria and getting diseases. Therefore, biotechnology is more harmful than good. Biotechnology’s only benefit is that it will keep the population in check by slowly killing people by limiting how long they live for. This is to keep America and other countries from over populating. Every country may be different. China for instance limits babies from being born for each couple. When a couple in China want to have a baby, they are only allowed to have one child. This is known as the “One-Child Policy”. Americans however do not have any policy therefore, there are more people to feed thus Biotechnology comes in. I do believe future generations will not be anywhere near healthier than the generations of today. Food will not be a good source if Biotechnology…
