Food Deserts: A Case Study
I plan to research the effects to the residents of Colorado caused by the obtainability of fresh food. Is Colorado suffering from too many food deserts and what is the government’s role in combating the issue of fresh food in local communities? I would like to research this topic to better understand how the State of Colorado treats obesity and health. As I don’t know much about the government’s stance in sustaining fresh food, this topic could potentially affect my ability to access ample nutrition. I have found many articles and published studies pertaining to the topic of fresh food’s presence in communities. However, the sources I’ve found are lacking information from the local perspective as to why food deserts might be an inevitable result of state funding. My complied sources come from respected journalists, state government bodies, and local agencies dedicated to establishing food security and education. I’ve been able to discard less reliable sources during my preliminary research, and I’m most satisfied with the credibility of the department of health and local agencies that conduct studies about my topic. The government sources could offer the most promising and reliable information. The material I’ve acquired from government and government-associated agencies will most likely divulge the issues and dynamics involved in nutritious food possibilities, in addition to addressing the statistics of fresh food viability for Colorado residents. Therefore, my sources such as the department of health have a sturdy likelihood of offering the most accurate statistics, and realistic characteristics involved in analyzing food deserts. The reference information I have found from the local initiative based agencies like Live Well Colorado and the Colorado Health Foundation will offer the unique aspect of finding solutions and strategies to tackle issues in local communities that lack the convenience of fresh food
