I definitely can relate my taste of food to my culture and class. For example, in my culture our tradition food is tamales, moles, and pozole. I love Mexican food; I don't think I'll ever love any other type of food as much as Mexican. Since I love the taste of spicy food. Personally, I can't enjoy my food without any salsa in it. But on the other hand, that is all my mother usually made. A type of food that can imply that I am a working class is fast food such as taco bell, Macdonald, and burger king. Since I am able to afford some of the meal. For example, MacDonald offers $1 chickens and meals less than 10 dollars. But also skip meals, buy junk food instead of nutritious food. As a member of a subordinate group, I always felt this way. Due to the fact that norms and values are based on the dominant group. The video on lecture: white privilege, I learned something new about my upbringing in this society. It clearly shocked me to see in the video how white race has privilege in society unlike other race. The experiment on the video proved if one is white, then they have white privilege and are not likely to face discrimination. Race determines if we are discriminated or oppress in society. On the video it verifies what white privilege is. For example, on the video, it's demonstrates how John race as white, is not discriminated when he receives the exactly the same services like Glen. unlike Glen, John get instant service and heartily welcome from the sales person. How I was drill as a child to think that by assimilating to the dominant culture, I will be seen as equal to them but also be treated fairly. How assimilation was the only way to be a true American. How I was taught to think that my culture was not as valuable. In addition, how I lived in my own bubble believing that equality and justice for all. However, the video on white privilege make obvious that, the dominant race was not with education, occupation, and quality services, as well not experiencing discrimination. I was never educated that my race someday will play a huge role on how the society will view me negatively. How the white race will judge me? I was too young back then to understand a thing such as poverty and class

    It also reminded me of an MPR program that was talking about George Town's past that involved owning slaves to raise money for scholarships that were given to white folks.     The biggest thing I learned about was white privilege, what it is and why it is a problem. Before this class, I never knew that white privilege was a thing or a problem. I did not feel like I had any more privileges than other races, I was blinded by it. Over the course of this semester I learned that white privilege is completely unearned, if you are white you have it and if you are not you do not have it.     I decided to try to work on myself at least by identifying some of the daily effects of white privilege in my life. I have chosen those conditions that I think in my case attach somewhat more to skin-color privilege than to class, religion, ethnic status, or geographic location, though of course all these other factors are intricately intertwined. As far as I can tell, my African American coworkers, friends, and acquaintances with whom I come into daily or frequent contact in this particular time, place and time of work cannot count on most of these conditions. 1. Kendall (2002) tabulates how white people can become aware of their privilege.     Being white to me means that you automatically are distinguished as “normal” because white people tend to get the higher paying jobs simply because they are the people who dominate this world with power. Because of my ethnic identification I am seen as “non-white” and labeled as “black”, while others ethnics are labeled “others”. This tends to make the “others” feel oppressed. The privilege that is given to the white dominant group is not the same privilege given to people of color. When will our society accept that being different can be also be considered “normal?” This is privilege itself, socially constructed ideas that only exists when the members of the society believe it and enforce it. When society recognizes the idea of privilege, the ones accepting the privilege only have that opportunity to do so because of a physical characteristic that is out of their control.
