Fond Memories: Relationship Between Reading And Writing
Fond Memories What do you remember about when you first learned to read and write? Was the experience pleasant or painful? My mother and a past teacher, whose name I cannot remember played crucial roles in my experience with learning to read and write. My experiences with reading and writing are mostly good, which is why I have a good relationship with reading and writing today. I was passionately taught, and passionately I learned. I love to read because of my mother. When I was young I disliked reading and preferred to watch movies instead. To get me to enjoy reading my mother would read stories to me and I would read along with her. One day my mother read only classic books from our houses to San Antonio, Texas. We read Little women, Great Expectations, Treasure Island, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Ten Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, plus more. I remember how her voice made the words on the pages come to life. She would very her tone for each character and made each one unique. It was like watching a one man play. I soon wanted to read the stories by myself because I was always in a rush to know the ending; reading to myself was faster than my mother reading aloud to me. Every time I read I can still …show more content…
I love writing because you can write anything your heart desires. I love how it is a way to communicate with other people. When I was in first grade my teacher whose name has escaped my memory, taught my class how to write in cursive a year early. I loved the way the letters curved and swirled on paper. A desire to write and write anything was sparked by the fact that I thought cursive was pretty. But in first grade I was mostly writing vocab words and not essays so I had not yet discovered its power to communicate. Today, I love writing because I can share my opinion with the world. I see that writing gives me the power to make a difference and all people have to do is read

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

The first time that I read a book that I truly enjoyed was given to me by my 6th grade reading and writing teacher Mrs. Forristall. Before I had Mrs. Forristall as a teacher, I dreaded going to an english class because I never understood what the point of it all was. My question was always “What is the point of reading if I don’t comprehend it and I don’t like it? My 6th grade teacher changed my perspective on it all. I now love reading books, I love the way that I connect to characters or the author, and I love the way I get into the storyline as a reader, all thanks to Mrs. Forristall.…

For me, learning to read and write was long and felt like a drag to me; I took reading and writing for granted and never thought of the great advantages that every book had. It all started at home when I was five years old and my mom was teaching me how to write my name. In my head, I had trouble understanding on what I wrote but as far as I know that was my name. Finally the day came and it was time for me to go to school. I was scared; I did not know where I was, and I did not know a single word in English. There was no way my mom would stick me in an English classroom. They moved me to a Spanish one; there I had a more clear idea of what I was learning. The teacher was a sweet, calm lady; she had patience with bad writing, to this day I have not figured out whether she understood it or not. Once I learned my ABC’s here came the small words of animals and things like for example “oso” which means bear in Spanish. Learning to read and write seamed so boring. I had to sit down and do homework which required my attention, but I preferred to draw and play. Learning was torture; I would read very slowly, even when I tried to read those small picture books for small kids, I was useless by that time.…

The essay “Why I am a writer” from Pat Mora explains why the author loves to write. She enjoys reading books and through her writing she would like others to discover the same joy she feels when she reads a book. She loves writing because she can find out more things about herself and also describe them. Most importantly she is a Hispanic writer and wants to share her ideas and stories because she believes it is important for Hispanics to take part in literature. I also think writing is a great way to express myself and my feelings to others because you can present your ideas in a more vivid way.…

The answer to how to help children develop a love of reading mainly lies in how we as adults encourage them. Most of a child’s early learning comes from copying what they see their parents do, so if children do not see their parents read then they are not going to be compelled to read themselves. There are so many ways we can nurture a love of reading with children that in turn will help them develop in so many different ways. We read for so many different reasons and it is important that we convey those differences to our children so they can maximize the benefits they get from their own reading.…

I didn’t always love reading. As a child I found reading to be very boring. I felt as if there were more important things to do than read. I’d rather spend my time outside running in the lush green grass, feeling the individual blades between my tiny toes. Life was small back then. In elementary school being able to read was important. Actually enjoying reading wasn’t; I guess that’s where my dislike for reading formed.…

"You cannot open a book without learning something" (Confucius). About two months before school started, the weather became extremely hot. I stayed at home to enjoy the air-conditioning and to do some reading. I grabbed an arbitrary book which had probably sat on my shelf during the whole summer. On the cover, it read "Voices and Values: A Reader for Writers by Janet M.Goldstein and Beth Johnson". On the inside, a few carelessly folded pages indicated that the book had ever been used. This book, a collection of effective essays, was a requirement for one of my classes. It theoretically served as a key to succeed both in reading and writing, but I had only read ten essays in an attempt to finish my homework assignments enough to maintain a fair grade in the course. That was how I approached school, getting the highest possible grade with the lowest possible effort. However, after reading several more essays in "Voices and Values", my attitude toward studying changed.…

Reading is a great passion of mine. From fiction to biographies, my tastes are eclectic and span many genres, all of them useful. Biographies reveal the flaws and merits of successful people, which are invaluable for reflection. Fiction allows one to enter someone else's mind and see the world through different eyes. While I don't read as much as I'd like to, the time I do find to finish books offers great food for thought.…
