Flaws In The Interlopers
Even people that appear perfect have character flaws. While not always fatal theses flaws are there. Many people in today’s society have been brought up to hide their imperfections. Hiding them always seems to be the answer. As a whole species we want to please other people because, humans are social creatures. Almost everyone growing up was taught the standard response to someone asking how they are doing. It has become clear that everybody has some reason for appearing to be who they so badly want to be thought of. Actually the majority of people are not who they say they are there just wearing a mask, a social mask. The daily conversations exchanged between two or more individuals and light and fluffy conversation where imperfections …show more content…
Their inability to overcome such a small obstacle ends up costing then their lives. It is painful that “Georg, who was nearly blinded with the blood which trickled across his eyes, stopped his struggle for a moment to listen, and then gave a short, snarling laugh.” (Saki 10) had this reaction appose to trying to make a plan with Ulrich to get them unpinned from the fallen trees and to safety. Neither man was willing to keep the past in the past and work together. This inflated ego and pride is an example of a flaw that became fatal even though appearing minor. In Travels with Charley when the narrator was told bringing his poodle was a bad idea he insisted his dog would behave. In fact he said that “… This a dog of piece and tranquility. I suggest that the greatest danger to your bears will be pique at being ignored by Charley” (Steinbeck 937) Little did he know his dog had his mask on the whole time. Lying deep down in Charley was anger, aggression, or just a protective guard dog like instinct. Either ignoring advice from someone who knows best or being stubborn can result in trouble.
In the text Interlopers although previously willing to die rather than help each other Ulrich suddenly had a change of heart, this became apparent when he began talking to Georg Znaeym and

It was a fair compact. But as for me, I've changed my mind. If my men are the first to come you shall be the first to be helped, as though you were my guest. We have quarreled like devils all our lives over this stupid strip of forest, where the trees can't even stand upright in a breath of wind. Lying here to-night thinking I've come to think we've been rather fools; there are better things in life than getting the better of a boundary dispute. Neighbour, if you will help me to bury the old quarrel I - I will ask you to be my friend.’”

I spent years trying to be perfect, and if not perfectly perfect then at least seemingly perfect. I tried to be the person who always had a big smile, something wise to say and a positive outlook. I spent high school finding friends that I knew would help me become a better person. I got involved in countless activities and truly enjoyed every moment volunteering, participating and leading the organizations I belonged to. I tried to keep my cool at all costs, promising myself I would handle personal problems outside the eye of my peers. But, there was always one thing that broke my “image”, one thing that became my kryptonite.…

Nicholas Cage once said, "I like flawed characters because somewhere in them I see more of the truth." In other words, Cage believes that if a character 'pretends' to be perfect then you will not see who the person really is, and you cannot really relate and connect with that person on a deeper level. This statement is true because through being flawed characters show more of themselves, and become more realistic. Elie from Elie Wiesel's Night and Yunior from Junot Diaz's Drown are two characters who are flawed and show who they really are, and therefore as readers we can connect to them.…

As you might have noticed by now, no one is perfect in this world and everyone has their own flaws. Antigone and King Creon's flaws, for example, cannot be hidden because their flaws are what make them up as a person. They both share more than one fault; one of many faults is hubris. Antigone had another flaw that could be considered either good or bad, depending on the situation; that flaw was bravery. King Creon is very close-minded, and that's one of the many flaws the king has. Hubris, bravery and close-mindedness — the tragic flaws that Antigone, King Creon, and possibly other people, possess.…

Appearance is everything, the way someone looks, talks, and acts all make up who they are as a person. When someone does something the way they are seen often affects the outcome and consequences of their actions. This is seen very often in both Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. The main characters in both of these novels do awful things but their physical appearance, mindset, and whether they are a good or a bad person affects the way they are treated. The way society sees a person's overall appearance too often changes the way their actions are seen and dealt with and how they are treated as well.…

Some people’s are larger and more prominent than others, but one wants to own up to their inner evils because that’s human nature. Everyone wants to be seen as an innocent person, not someone who has all this inner evil or sin hidden inside them. I believe that our current society has a lot of impact on that. No one has the courage to be their true selves anymore because they feel like they have too much pressure from society and social media to be a perfect, model being. Sadly, there are many people who try to be true to themselves and are bullied or looked down upon because of it , yet on the other side of the spectrum, there are people who hide the real them for so long that they get so caught up in it and can never act like who they truly are on the inside anymore. Yes, everyone has their own hidden secrets, but to be true to themselves and own up to it, they need to accept it in their own hearts and no longer hide behind their own black…

According to Nicholas Cage “I like flawed characters because somewhere in them I see more of the truth.” This quote means that impuissance and imperfection in characters avail us to more preponderant understand those characters and go deep in them. I agree with this quote because we learn from our faults and in the same way we understand a character precisely that has imperfections. “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller helps to understand the fact that a flawed character is a true character.…

First, learning about their flaws shows that everyone have there days. By this I mean, that if you just think people that are admired dont have flaws then seeing that they do you will know that everybody have flaws at the end. Now it up to you to make it known or not, so if you dont then nobody will ever know this can be a reason that you dont think they have their flaws. For example, if you were under the age of 16 and had a baby and you tell people besides family things can spread and alot of people are going to know. Whereas, if you just tell family it will remain there. People that are admired have pronblems they just dont allow the world to know about there problems.…

“A perfection of means, and confusion of aims seems to be our main problem” (Einstein). As humans, we try to achieve perfection, and fail often. We know how to achieve what we want, but when it comes to what we want to achieve, we get very confused. We have been told by sci-fi authors repeatedly that striving for perfection will be the downfall of the human race. In Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the government strives to achieve perfection by sculpting their own illustration of idealism. In any society, individuals judge others’ physical appearance relative to their personal thoughts. The diversity of peoples’ opinions come from individual thoughts untouched by others, but in Uglies, the government believes in perfection being total equality. They believe that uniformity leads to equality in beauty as well as true equality, because beauty biases decisions giving others unfair advantages. Therefore, they strip people’s identities in society for peace and equality within body and mind. The Uglies illustrates that perfection is unattainable in society, body and mind.(we could also use this thesis(The Uglies illustrates that perfection is unattainable when uniformity of society, body and mind is the goal).…

If anything, and anyone was seen to be perfect, there would be no room for improvement. Everyone would coast through life in harmony and without any need for change/modification to society. While parts of that image are appealing, society would be stagnant in a seemingly flawless world. If, however, just the idea that people are born the way they are supposed to be was a universally accepted concept, then there would be no more struggle over rights or equality. Take, for example, the fight for women’s rights. The equality movement has been a long and arduous fight in which women have evolved in society from house hand to presidential election nominee. In the fight for equality, those who opposed the working woman have ultimately perished in the rise of women in the workforce, and the rise of equal pay. If, however, there was never the perception that women were inferior in the workforce, then there never would have been a longwinded struggle which created deep-rooted hatred for opposing sides.…

Hatred plays a large part in the “interlopers” because of the long standing feud between the Znaeym and Grawitz families. the argument n that began over disputed land quickly turned into anger that lasted for generations. It was this hatred that led to Ulrich and Georg meeting in the forest on a stormy night, and ultimately to their implied demise. One of Saki’s points in relating George and Ulrich's meeting is that hatred is a taught quality, which means it can be unlearned. This is exactly what occurred in the forest. After lying trapped under the tree for a time, Ulrich is kind to George saying, “quote” This supports the…

People are to self centered and only focus on themselves and their looks. Most people become full of themselves and start acting like they are better than everyone else. Sometimes people would rather worry about themselves than try and help others and listen to what other people think. The author is extremely honest about how people can become vain and forget about everyone else. I absolutely agree about what the author says because I have seen situations like this in my own life. I think the author tried to warn people not to become so…

A feud that had occurred for three generations in The Interlopers, went as far as two men losing their lives. The two men, Gradwitz and George were the latest generation enemies. The two of them were petty towards each other. Both of the enemies were held responsible for their deaths due to the following reasons: they let their personal emotions take over, they took action in a scene that had nothing to do with them, and they hated each other with a passion. Gradwitz and George died together.…
