Fish Stock Assessment
Through this expedition, we learned how to identify the marine fish stock assessment. The fish stock assessment is a scientific analysis that tries to describe the past of current situation of a fish stock. The main objective of a fish stock assessment is to make sure that the data inputs are accurate and made in a timely matter. The results that are presented to the marine resource management are critical because it ensures how to keep sustainable fisheries, healthy ecosystems, and to have productive communities. The three inputs that are required for stock assessment are the catch, abundance, and biology. The four important methods of fish stock assessment I will examine will be: Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE), Virtual Population Analysis, Chaos theory, and lastly research surveys.

The research surveys method of fish stock assessment uses empirical methods. The research surveys method surveys sample fish in many locations. The survey and data are conducted annually in order, to be able to track fluctuations closely and, also collect data

This method is also known to be the traditional and common marine fish stock management. The stock is reconstructed by birth year or year class and it also knows about what the past size is in order, to make inferences for the future use.
The next method is known as Chaos Theory. The chaos theory does not assume population equilibrium in a fish stock year to year and it also does not count fish. Another important component of this theory is it evaluates variable influences on the fish population that has been caused by habitat changes and the ecosystem. Sometimes there also subtle changes in the environment but that can still cause large population

    In order to see an increase in the fish population in the ocean we should definitely take the next few steps in order to see that change. We need to create more areas where fishing is illegal and prohibited. This alone will make all the difference. If they are limited to being able to fish at all then there will be a decline in the fishing activity overall. This has to be the most important change that needs to be made in order to increase fish stock. To determine which areas should be designated as “No Catch Zones” there should be many oceanographers (often referred to as marine scientist). This is so that they can work together to determine where the fish breed, the area of the breeding ground and the temperature of the water in which they do breed.
