first reflection as a leader
First assignment: earliest recollection of being a leader
Before I start talking about my earliest recollection of being a leader, I have to mention my perspective of leadership. I believe that each individual has the ability to be a leader when he/she has certain characteristics. However, these characteristics are not necessary innate as what the other believes, it can be inherited by learning. Each person has the ability to make an impact in others is a leader. Each person makes decisions and leads a group of people is a leader. The father and the mother are leaders in their home, the teacher is a leader in his/her classroom and both artists and musicians are leaders in their field. All these individuals are leaders because they are able to make a significant impact on other people and in their communities. That doesn’t mean that everyone can be an effective leader, I believe that there are certain personality traits, characteristics, skills and motivations that need to be present to become an effective and successful leader.
When I’m thinking about my earliest recollection of being a leader, immediately jump to my mind my first teaching experience as a training teacher when I was undergraduate student. I was 21 years old at that time and I had to complete one of my bachelor graduation requirements. I was responsible to teach the Basic English grammar for the whole semester. I had the opportunity to choose even to teach intermediate or secondary school and I preferred the intermediate level specifically the 3rd grade. Through that period of time, I became the instructor of a classroom with the capacity of 35 female students who were 15 years old.
At that time, I had several responsibilities inside and outside the classroom. I had to teach the students 3 chapters twice a week and be responsible to evaluate their understanding by doing number of quizzes, making several individual and group activities, and selecting assignments and homework. Furthermore, I had to collaborate with my students to make our final project at the end of the semester which would be presented for the whole school.
Since it was my first time to be in a position of control or a position of influence where I could shape the direction of particular group (my students), I faced some challenges at the beginning however it passed over as the days progressed. At the early two weeks of my teaching practice, I felt nervous and out of control. I lost my ability in managing and supervising the classroom. It was my first time to be in front of classroom so I couldn’t be able to lead 35 adolescents. I didn’t have any idea how to interact with students; even though I came to the class very focused and well prepared, I faced hard time to explain a certain concept or new information. So, with the lack of confidence and being scared to face my students, I found myself ill-prepared.
However, I passed all the challenges by setting with other teachers discussing the difficulties and listened to their different advices. Also, I attended other teacher’s classes and took notes how they interact with their students and what they did in their classroom. Then, after a while, I became more confident and was able to interact well with my students. Finally, at the end of the semester, I and my students won the award of the best final project.
Despite the lack of the effective leader in my earliest experience, I still need to learn more about the formal meaning of being a leader and the ways of making an effective impact in others. I’m glad that I had that opportunity in my early life to experience being a leader but I need to learn more and more of this concept.

A leader is a person who represents the whole class and motivate them. I did not believe I was a leader. During my freshman and sophomore year of high school, I was a quiet spoken individual who listens to what others have to say. It was not that I did not have anything to say, but it was the fear of saying something wrong and others disregarding what I had to say. I did several presentations in high school that made speaking in front of people more easier. However, I was still the timid person who wanted desperately to break my shell but did not know how. A shocking moment had occurred when I had became secretary of Zonta Club. It was junior year and I was surprised to have been part of the leadership team. I was able to discuss my ideas and to speak with the members at ease. It was my breaking point. I was given a privilege to be part of something that made a change. I was not just the soft spoken person, but I was a leader…

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

I am a great leader and throughout my high school career I have taken every opportunity I could to display this. For three out of my four years I have participated as a Muskoka Woods Leader. This required me to spend a week at a summer camp at which I would lead a group of grade 7s through a series of fun activities. Being a leader at this camp wasn't always fun and games though. I had encountered many situations with the grade 7s in which I would have to improvise and apply my knowledge of leadership to sort out. For example, during one of our games we would play, there was a little boy who was sitting off on the side not participating. I went over to talk to the boy to find out what was wrong. When I found out that he didn't understand how to play the game I knew exactly how to fix it. I brought him over to a corner and me and him played our own little one on one version of the game. I taught him how to play and I played with him until he was finally ready to join the other grade 7s. As well as being a Muskoka Leader, in my grade 11 year, I was a Link Leader for my high school. This was different from being a Muskoka Leader because this time I was working with grade 9 students who were entering high school. Throughout the year I worked with the grade 9s giving them secret tips and tricks about how they could survive their freshman year of high…

When I was in school I took a test, which gave me suggestions on what I should do in life as an adult. I believe that the test that I took influenced my personality, and the type of attitude that I had in time of conflict, and situations. Each suggestion that I was given would have me to be a leader. I believe that in order to lead, a leader must have walked were other are trying to go. Leaders have the challenge of serving those employees, or students who they lead. My goal as a leader is to encourage people to better his or herself by making, wise and structured decisions in life. Decisions that we make today affect the paths of our future. There are many different opinions on how a person becomes a great leader. One view is that leaders are born. They are gifted with the ability to be natural role-models and have the capability to cause others to want to follow them. Another view is that there is no way a person is just born with leadership ability. Instead, people learn from others and develop leadership abilities through trial and error. The most sensible view, however, is leaders are a combination of the two, they are both born with a leadership mentality and have also learned, from other great leaders, skills which they use to become a great leader. In addition, great leaders must have the desire to want to leader others. It is not reasonable to believe that a great leader can not have both some innate abilities as well as some sound training in leadership.…
