2.1-Identify the signs and symptoms of common childhood illnesses.
Common cold -
Symptoms include: sneezing, runny nose, slight sore throat, occassional headaches and a temperature.
Gastroenteritis(stomach bug)
Symptoms include: Vomiting, temperature, diarrhoea(not on all occassions) and dehydration.
Tonsillitis
Symptoms include: A very sore throat, fever, aches including headaches/migraines.
Scarlett Fever
Symptoms include: Fever, loss of appetite, sore throat, pale mouth and lips, slight rash on face and body.
Dysentary
Symptoms include: Vomiting, diarrhoea with blood+mucus, abdominal pain, fever, and headache.
Chicken Pox
Symptoms include: Fever, extremely itchy rash with blister-type appearance.
Measles
Symptoms include: A high fever, runny nose and eyes. After these symptoms such as a cough, white spots around the mouth, blotchy red rash on body and face.
Mumps
Symptoms include: Pain and swelling of the jaw, painful swallowing and a fever. May have swollen testes if male.
Rubella(German measles)
Symptoms include: Slight cold, sore throat, swollen glands behind ears and slight pink rash.
Pertussis(Whooping Cough)
Symptoms include: Snuffly cold, spasmodic cough with 'whooping' sound and vomiting.
Meningitis
Symptoms include: Fever, headache, drowsiness, confusion, dislike of light, very stiff neck, red rash that doesn't dissappear with pressure.

2.2-Describe the actions to take when a child or young people are ill or injured.

If a child is ill.
1)Take the childs temperature(in ear or underarm)
2)If temperatures high, remove a layer of clothing and provide the child with water.
3)Inform room leader.
4)Parent/carer contacted if necessary.

If a child is injured
1)Call first aider.
2)Inform room leader.
3)Fill out relevant accident form.
4)Sit and comfort child.
5)Communicate what has happened to the parent/carer.
6)Follow the correct precedure for filing.
