Fire On The Mountain Analysis
“Fire on the Mountain” is the title of the second chapter of the book Lord of the Flies. Because the adolescents were stranded on an island after the plane crash with no adults in sight, they decided that they needed to be the ones to take action, and do something about their situation in order to get saved. Ralph suggests that they “make smoke on the top of the mountain” (Golding 46) in order to grab the attention of a ship that might sail near the island. Jack and his choir immediately started looking around the forest to “get as much wood” (Golding 47) as they could to “build a pile” (Golding 47) to start their fire; however, they were too hasty. They did not take into consideration about the fact that something could go wrong at any time.
