On August 17, 2017 a category 3 hurricane, hit Houston, Texas. The hurricane flooded up to 7 feet (still rising) affecting the citizen’s homes and families. In the article “Fire Ants Are Yet Another Hazard in Houston’s Flooded Streets” talks about another kind of danger in Houston, fire ants. Fire ants usually inhabit in South Africa and the wetlands of Brazil. They have a water resistant fabric layer that can withstand water. Before Hurricane Harvey they hid in an underground tunnel system. When the flooding began the fire ants were able to link their claws and cling to one another, floating in massive rafts following the currents.
