Fionine
The Discovery of Fionine
Fionine was not originally designed to be discovered by myself. My brother is severely allergic to all things related to Fionine, so I was never allowed to be near Fionine or anything like her. After my brother left the house to pursue a degree from the University of Georgia, my sister asked my mother if we could get a Fionine and the answer was yes! We (my sister and I) very excitedly soon search the Internet about all subjects related to Fionine. We soon after came across an ad trying to sell little Fionine puppies. By this point, my sister was bouncing off the walls, like one of the many energetic qualities that our new addition to the family would soon exhibit on a hourly basis. Upon Fionine’s arrival the feelings were one of excitement and uncertainty. We (the Crumpton family) had never had a Fionine or anything like her (except for the rabbits, but those stayed outside all the time so they do not really count). For the first few weeks of Fionine’s precious life were spent sleeping and being passed from person to person. Fionine soon expressed her love of attention by always wanting to be in the center of everyone. Fionine absolutely loves people and does not know any strangers. Fionine does not make a very good watchdog because of her love for people. Fionine also loves to be flipped on her back and her belly to be rubbed just like a baby. Fionine also enjoys to chase tennis balls around the back yard and to swim in the pool. Fionine spends most of her time on her “perch” (the back of the couch) and supervises the day-to-day activities that surround her. Fionine’s goal in life is to finally catch one of the many squirrels that occupy my backyard. She has yet to achieve this highly prestigious goal, but this is not to say that one day even Fionine’s dream can come true.

In this experiment a ketone, 9-fluorenone is reduced to and alcohol. The are two possible ways by which this reduction can occur. One is by a catalytic hydrogenation, this uses a catalyst such as palladium or nickel, hydrogen gas, and heat/pressure. This can reduced an alkane to alkene. This catalytic process is preferred in industrial practices because the cost is low in the long run and more importantly there is little to no waste expense. However, hydrogen gas is dangerous due to being very flammable/combustible. Therefore, a reducing agent will be used in this experiment instead. There are multiple types of reducing agents that reduce different types of functional groups and thus selection of the proper reducing agent is crucial.…

This is my cat ‘‘Buttercup’’. You might wonder: Why that name? Well, when I founded him, it was unavoidable to match his muddy yellow coat with the bright flower. He had a mashed-in nose, half of one ear missing and eyes the color of rotting squash. According to my older sister, Katniss, Buttercup was the world’s ugliest cat but it did not matter, because I knew that in the bottom of her heart she was starting to love him. Besides, he was a great help at home, for he was a born mouser. So, we did not have vermin problems anymore. Furthermore, Buttercup was very special for me; he made me feel safe when I had nightmares during the…

As Marion walks into the parlor, a close-up of the owl and raven are shown between shots of Marion as she scans the room. The black raven is both a predator and a scavenger whereas the songbirds are the targets of owls, hawks, and even ravens. As the songbirds sit next to Marion and the crow hovers eerily over her, Norman tells Marion that she “eats like a bird”. Assuming that Norman is comparing her to a songbird and not a predatory bird, Marion seems to exemplify Norman’s statement by picking at a piece of bread for the whole scene. Norman then says, “I hear the expression ‘eats like a bird’ is really a falsity, because birds really eat a tremendous lot”. Then, Norman says, “I think only birds look well stuffed because, well because they’re kind of passive to being with.” As Norman places his hand in an almost affectionate way on the smaller bird next to him, he describes how he uses his hobby of “stuffing things” to fill time rather than pass time. The small bird that Norman has his hand on symbolizes his feelings toward all women: they are better dead and inactive. As Marion stands to leave the parlor and return to her room, each shot of Marion reveals the raven’s beak pointing straight toward her neck. Audience feel a sense of threat toward Marion, but after the owl becomes associated with Norman’s mother, the tension between Marion and the birds…
