Finding Forester

The movie Finding Forester takes place in the Bronx this setting is importing in the movie and shows what kind of lifestyle Jamal has, and what he is expected to live up to. It shows that by living in such an area of poor black people not much is going to be going on for him and not much can be done in the area except play basketball with his friends in the court and not much besides that. There are other settings in the movie like Forester's apartment as Jamal spends most of his time there and it’s where he writes most of his writing. It’s important here because Jamal can work better in this environment than he can in other places, so he feels more comfortable here and spends most of the movie in this apartment.
The basketball could represent the sport itself having a lot of competition and struggles and through the movie basketball causes a lot of conflict with Jamal. When he is in the new school internal conflict with his team occurs and another towards the end of the movie when his school life is on the line to stay at Mailor-Callow he missed to two foul shots because they told him if he wins the game the problems with the competition submission piece would go away like it never ever happened. The books represent insulation from the real world. Forester spent his time in his house reading all of his books in his house barely paying attention to what’s going on in the world unless he's looking outside through is binoculars. The window represents the window to the outside world and it’s closed for most of the movie to show how closed up Forester is until the end of the movie where it’s kept open. Forester seems to belong to a class of people who do not wish to be involved with how the world is today but he does belong to class of highly intelligent people. He wrote a book and it got published giving him a lot of fame and he was well known for it as all his books were still taken out

"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get." Forrest Gump is the portrayal of a man that has been alienated from society, not because he is unintelligent or dimwitted, but rather because he is not restricted by the conventional ideals which are embedded within his culture; thus, challenging the conformities and principals that most people are accustomed to. The contrast that Robert Zemeckis, director of the film, is attempting to convey through the character of Forrest Gump is how most people are too smart for there own good; and thus, try to escape the realities and actualities of life. While other characters in the story are suppressed by society's conflicts, Forrest remains blinded to all; hence, he is able to live in the moment, rather then evading what is real. Forrest's unique selflessness and compelled nature to do what is right, as opposed to what is easy, are what our society incorrectly labels stupidity or futility. Zemeckis is obviously pointing out that an individual has no control over his or her own destiny and in order to live a noble life, must accept life as it is.…

In the film Forrest Gump, Robert Zemeckis (director) positions the audience in a number of ways using Christian/moral discourses throughout the film. The plot is essential to any film or text and has a major role in this film. One important and crucial aspect of this film is the Christian/moral themes and messages, both good and bad, such as loyalty and bulling. Other aspect of the film includes dialogue, which Forrest takes literally. Perhaps the strongest theme that impacts the viewer is the plot.…

Hollywood accounting can be every bit as creative as a good movie script. At least, that is what some lawyers and journalists seem to be telling us. According to news reports, the hit movie Forrest Gump, which won “Best Picture of 1994” honors at the Academy Awards, claimed a worldwide theatrical gross of $661 million through May of 1995. That amount excludes videocassette and soundtrack revenues, and it doesn’t include licensing fees of Forrest Gump products such as wristwatches, ping-pong paddles and shrimp cookbooks. Yet, according to Paramount Studios, the film project lost $56 million dollars on a box office gross of $382 million through December, 1994 (see Exhibit 1).…
