My recent interest in the effects of divorce on children led me to find your article “The Positive Effects of Divorce on Children”. It can to my attention that we both stood on different aspects of the situation. I am a child of divorce and yes I can say that it made me the man I am today, but all my nightmares outweigh the little good. Today in America, one out of every two marriages ends in divorce and many divorcing families include children. That’s about 1.5 million children in America that suffer from divorce every year. Children who experience divorce tend to suffer from social, emotional and mental troubles.
In your recent article on positive effects of divorce on children. You assert that divorce can be a positive thing when the marriage is in high conflict and the children are exposed to violence both physical and mental, and abusive lifestyles. According to you some families being under one roof does not work. You commented that “very few divorces are friendly but once the household situation is diffused by a family breakup and the daily problems have disappeared, the children benefit because they are no longer living and breathing a situation that has become a norm”. Your article gives detailed examples of situations were divorce have positive effects on the child. According to you divorce can bring out the best in children especially older children who have younger brothers and sisters, because they want to protect their younger sisters and brothers and do so by making sure they are okay and being compassionate towards them, and it can mature and strength for their age.
Living the life of a child who have experienced divorce, I can relate to your concerns and positive ways to pull the good there is in divorce. Yes I can agree that children of divorced parents sometimes have a better understanding of life, and I also agree that divorce bring out the best in...
