Dear Grant Reviewer,
On behalf of SPAN Meals on Wheels of Denton County, I am pleased to submit this proposal to Retirement Research Foundation (RRF). SPAN respectfully requests your consideration of a grant of $331,900 to support our innovative & caring project, which offers low-income seniors and the disable preventive and specialized dental treatment at no cost. Being able to provide them with basic dental care and specialized treatment is imperative and a pressing need to this segment of the population that it is to double in the next decade. Your gift will enable us to provide these seniors with the treatment they need and will allow seniors to care for their dental needs preventing other diseases that could develop from poor dental care.

Since 1974, SPAN’S mission is to provide outstanding services to aging citizens, people with disabilities, services that enable them to live as fully and independently as possible. Because of the Retirement Research Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for our nation’s elders & as one of the nation’s first private foundations devoted exclusively to aging and retirement issues, we sincerely hope that you will choose to join us as our partner by investing in the health and well-being of our seniors. Your gift of $331,900 will make a significant difference in their ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle without putting a dent in their limited incomes. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (940)3822224. We deeply appreciate your consideration of our request and look forward to hearing from you in soon.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
SPAN is a private, nonprofit organization established in 1974 to provide services to senior citizens in Denton County. Our mission is to help seniors improve and maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle and to maximize their quality of life. The SPAN new program for dental health assistance will provide comprehensive access to dental health to the seniors that SPAN currently serves as well as people with disabilities in Denton County. Many seniors are on fixed incomes that prevents them from being able to invest on dental care and/or treatment. Access is particularly important as low-income, minority, and institutionalized/homebound elderly are at high risk for oral disease but are the least likely to receive services. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that only 15% of these elderly had satisfactory oral health.1 The main goals of the senior dental assistance program is first to identify low-income seniors with unmet oral health needs, particularly those who are already in care but need further treatment. With your help, the unaddressed gap in oral healthcare for seniors represents an opportunity to improve over-all wellbeing. A program such as this one can make significant improvements in the health of serious who have serious, chronic health conditions that are exacerbated by untreated dental issues. Your investment of $221,760 will complete the funding we need to fully implement this program, and we are excited about the prospect of partnering with you. Thank you for your consideration of our request.
