Film Review Of Rain Man By Barry Welson
Rain Man is a heartwarming film directed by Barry Levinson that tells the tale of two brothers reunited as adults that build a bond through a cross country that will last a lifetime. The two and half hour movie was created in 1988 that boasted a cast of Dustin Hoffman, Tom Cruise and Valeria Golino. The drama/comedy shows that everyone is special; sometimes you need to know that person to see it.
Rain Man begins when Charlie Babbit learns his nonexistent father has passed away, he returns home to Cincinnati where he learns that he has an autistic brother, Raymond, and that his father’s 3 million dollars will given to the mental institution where Raymond resides. Determined to get his fathers money Charlie checks Raymond out of the institution and takes him on a road trip to Los Angeles that will forever change both. Now that I’ve given a summary of the film, I would like to discuss what made the film the masterpiece that it is. Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman do a great job as the head roles. Hoffmann’s portrayal of Raymond is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. These actor’s chemistry was spot on throughout film,

As the relationship between Charlie and Raymond took shape, I gradually became more invested in the characters. The film was also shot in a wide variety of locations throughout their road trip such as Cincinnati, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Dave Kehr perfectly describes this when he writes “Levinson also shows a nice flair for an evocative yet non-picturesque use of locations…” Another critic that steals words out of my mouth about the movie is Jay Boyar as he writes “often very moving, frequently funny film.”. I could agree more with this statement as film is very moving especially at the closing scenes and has the right amount of humor over the course of the movie. This humor was achieved from great acting a script that really the actors take on the role. From this you can my reasoning for enjoying this

With so much hubbub given to the lenses and the format used to shot this film, one may expect to find many shots of huge mountains and outdoor sets. But these unique features are instead almost exclusively used for up close, tight situations, almost entirely in the stuffy cabin. Each unique character is simultaneously slowly unfolded. The script offers everyone opportunities to stand out, and they all do, but the greatest performances are given by both, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Walton Goggins. The Samuel L Jackson character is great, but many times Tarantino references the actors iconic image, by slowing down funny lines and making him say self-referential lines that don't seem to fit in. It often feels like Tarantino is poking you in the ribs saying “huh? did you see what he just said, wasn't it…

"Of course I don 't have my underwear. I 'm definitely not wearing my underwear.... These are not boxer shorts. Mine are boxer shorts. These are Hanes 32... My boxer shorts have my name and it says Raymond...I get my boxer shorts at K-Mart in Cincinnati". (Rain Man, 1988) This quote from the popular movie Rain Man perfectly captures the disorder that plagues Raymond Bobbitt, one of the main characters. He is a very particular man who must always do everything on a schedule; any disruption in this schedule completely turns his world upside down. He shows very little emotion, unless something happens to upset him, in which case he completely melts down. His behavior is almost that of a young child. However, he also has a very unique gift. He has an absolutely astounding memory and can recall the smallest details from events that occurred when he was just a young child. At one…

The movie that I will be reviewing is Cinderella Man. Directed by Ron Howard and stars Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger and Craig Bierko. The story is about James Braddock, who is a light heavyweight boxer, who was forced to retire from the ring after breaking his hand in the last fight. His wife Mae had hoped for years and years that he would quit boxing before really messing himself up. James works as a laborer at the docks but he still has ambitions to box. A couple years after his last fight, his old manager wants him to be a last minute substitute against the world’s second-ranked boxer. James agrees to fight, looses a couple times but then eventually steps his game up and wins. The point of view in the story is first person. I suppose this point of view was used by the director to give the audience a perspective of James’s life. The mood of the story is surprising. It is surprising because when you watch James during fights, you’ll never know if he will give up or win. Cinderella Man takes place in New York and New Jersey during the great depression. It is important to the story because it was a time when people experienced the worst economic hardship in the United States history. The main characters are James Braddock, who is an ex-prizefighter, Mae Braddock, James’s wife and Joe Gould, a boxing manager. Its intended audience are sports and boxing lovers, because the movie features many fights. The main theme of the film is that that no matter how dim things look and how unrealistic goals can be, you can always achieve them if you work hard enough. In my opinion, I think the actors did an excellent job, the acting was not bad nor lines being cheesy. They used a lot of emotion and expressing when saying their lines. In my opinion, I think the movie was perfect the way it was, I really enjoyed and it also made me want to achieve my dream goals in…

The humor is quite crude and is directly attacking another person in this instance and does so a lot more through out the show. Chris Lilly uses a lot of caricature with his characters taking them to the extreme but what makes it funny is that there are people like that, that other people may have dealt with in the past this adds a sense of understanding in the show and it also means that the characters aren’t completely unbelievable.…

Moreover, many misconceptions exist regarding people with ASD and before I move on, I would like to address some prominent myths about autism. Due to the popular movie Rain Man, many people in America and elsewhere believe that every individual with ASD is an Autistic Savant, as in they are exceptionally gifted in a specialized field, such as artistic ability, musical acuity, and more (Sicile-Kira, 2). This is a falsehood, as only ten percent of people with ASD have astounding gifts and are considered Autistic Savants (Frith, 29). Another pertinent myth to discuss is the idea that those who are nonverbal are unintelligent. Sadly, before I began learning about autism and related conditions, to some extent I believed this to be true.…
