People are born on this earth for freedom justice and rights! Everyone deserves a chance and its not fair if they don't get to live their life like normal kids. All because they are forced to grow up liken 10 years before its time for them to. They deserve a normal childhood also. Their parents should be ashamed because they were being selfish. Nagma and her family have a family tradition that i’ve never even seen before! They should've done everything they could to protect their precious creations. Honestly you never really know what you have until it's gone and i'm sure they don't want to go through that because i'm absolutely sure no one wants to go through a horrific childhood like those two young girls had to. The people that were protesting to help her are kinda lucky to be able to have the freedom of press. Not many people have that right. I think Nagmas father should not have went along with his traditional jirga. He could have protected his daughter. What type of father would do that? No offense for peoples culture but they have very weird ones out there! I believe that everyone should have their human rights because its not fair if one has something that another person can’t

In Michelle Goldberg’s article “Marry or Else,” she explains how forced marriages and honor killings are not just a part of a developing-world issue. Goldberg clarifies how these types of marriages also occur in America and England. Goldberg cites examples of young women, considered children are in fact being married off to old or mature men. Many girls adhere to forced marriages because if they do not they are threatened to be financially cut off or to be dead in the eyes of their family. Goldberg reports that these girls come from the United States and England and are shipped off to a man somewhere in India that they have never met or seen in their life. Goldberg explains that the parents promise their daughter to another family to wed their…

This essay will take an in-depth look at the history of Hollywood during the late 60s and early 70s. This period of time is considered to have been a renaissance for American cinema, and was titled the ‘New Hollywood’ by cotemporary critics of the time. In order to understand the changes that Hollywood went through the late ‘60s, you first have to examine the preceding era of Hollywood filmmaking during the 30s and 40s. This was a period that is commonly referred to as Hollywood’s Golden Age; when the dream factories were in full swing and the audiences were in regular attendance. This period of time could be defined by a number of social, political or economic contexts, but it’s the filmmaking practices that were employed at the time which…

The theme of the this film is plot in my perspective. I think this because this movie shows how Mr. Jones escape everyday boredom of being professor and goes on adventure being an archaeologist. While also being full of action and moving very fast and not really showing Mr. Jones developing and just staying the same. I think the filmmakers are trying to teach us some things are not meant to be seen with human eyes. I think they are successful trying to teach us this.. For example, all the Nazi men who saw and Bareback die just seeing with their eyes and Ark they melted and died I think that was the sign that this was something they were trying to teach us. Another example would be when there was dark clouds forming and lighting striking I think that was foreshadowing that something very bad would happen and when the Ark burn the symbol of the Nazi it was a sign that the Nazi were going to die.…

80% of women say that images of women on television, movies, fashion magazines, and advertising make them insecure (Dam). A visually stimulating documentary such as in Jennifer Siebel Newsoms’ documentary “Miss Representation” provides a logic supplemented presentation of gender in media driven by the emotions evoked from the images of the film resulting in readers thinking of gender in a more personal way as face to face interviews with teenagers who feel negatively affected by this problem are shown. On the other hand, a scientifically based academic journal such as in Rebecca Collins’ “Content Analysis of Gender Roles in Media: Where Are We Now and Where Should We Go?” delivers an extremely logic based presentation of the gender discussion…

In the movie “Bernie”, we follow the story and between a Carthage, Texas funeral director Bernie Tiede, and his co-dependent relationship with a wealthy widow, Marjorie Nugent. As “Bernie” unfolds, we see the companionship turn for the worse as Ms. Nugent’s ill-temper causes Bernie to snap – and lands her dead in her freezer. This movie brings up some questions, specifically regarding image. After analysis, the question I keep coming back to is “Was Bernie genuine and sincere? Or was it all a façade?” Although Bernie committed a horrible crime, I believe the answer to this question is “yes”- Bernie was a genuine man.…

According to the World Health Organization child marriage “denies a girl her childhood, disrupts her education, limits her possibilities, and increases her risk of violence and jeopardizes her health” (NCBI, Paragraph 7). Young girls are forced to marry elderly men to help their families pay for basic necessities or pay off a family debt. In many countries, the marriageable age for women is abnormally low due to the fact the government set two different legal ages for men and women; in some countries the legal age of consent for girls is as low as sixteen. The leaders of such countries attempt to justify these legal limits of girls by saying—stating that girls mature faster than boys. However, I believe that girls should be allowed to mature and live with their parents until they are old enough to marry a suitor of their…

One aspect of Laramie that strikes me is how peaceful, and free the town is, for example one of the characters states, “But you’d have to be out of your mind to let your kids out after dark. And here, in the summertime, my kids play out at night till eleven, and I don’t think twice about it” (Kaufman 7). This text portrays Laramie’s peacefulness, because here the character explains how he does not “think twice” about letting his kids play outside in the dark. One moment that I find interesting about Laramie is how one of the character tells his story about his desire to go to college for theatre, and his parents could not afford the tuition, so the boy signs up for a scholarship, and wins, but his parents did not support him throughout his significant experience. Another aspect that is interesting to me is how the play is written as a documentary that you would see on television, but in written form. So far, my early impression of the play is that it is overwhelming, due to Kaufman’s writing style. I am not enjoying how there are so many characters that share their stories, and experiences towards that town because all of the encounters are overwhelming, as well as the numerous amount of characters.…
