Boys Don't Cry is a film about the real life of Brandon Teena. Brandon Teena was a young transgender individual from Nebraska that was murdered after the discovery of his being transgender. Brandon Teena found a group of friends after a bar fight that got out of hand and found a home like atmosphere in their presence. If this had been the case, Brandon would! have never been in the bar trying to get out of town and thus would have never met

INSIGHTS

What a powerful role for Hilary Swank to pull off. From what I understand from documentaries and other information related to Brandon Teena, this movie was profoundly similar to the circumstances that took place. I have a few qualms however regarding the actions of Brandon Teena in the film and from what I understand in his real life. Being a transgender person myself, I would never advocate for any individual that is transgender to try and get away with fooling any intimate partner. I do understand however most people's need to hide the fact they are transgender, but if they are going to have sexual relations I think it becomes a moral issue when deciding to inform the partner of their birth gender. No one should be fooled in that way because in my mind, that is a violation upon another person's body, whether they know it or not. The individual has a right to know who they are dealing with.
The turmoil both psychologically and emotionally was depicted in an interesting

One thing the movie tries to teach us is the struggle to come to one’s sexuality, Sometimes in life one’s sexuality is harder than we think. In the movie, “The History Boys”, the film showcases this reality in two different viewpoints. The first viewpoint would be through the perspective of a teenage boy. The teenage boy, Posner, exemplifies this quality by simply living in a world of social awkwardness while theoretically becoming a man. The second viewpoint would be through the perspective of an older man. In the story, two older men named Hector and Irwin reproduce this lesson by both repressing their desires due to social norms. One represses himself by touching inappropriately boys, while the other stays in silent. Both of these men…

In an article called Malibu Local’s Only: “Boys will be Boys”, Brian Ludeke successfully argues how MLO qualifies as gang explaining multiple factors as to why it should be established as a criminal street gang. The California Penal Code 186.22, defines a criminal street gang as, “an ongoing organization of 3 or more persons, with a common name, or identifying mark or symbol, having as one of its primary activities the commission of the crimes listed and whose members individually or collectively engage in criminal activity (Trial Brief, 2006). MLO possesses many of the elements listed within the document that constitutes gang activity such as its organization, common name, primary purpose, pattern of gang activity, crimes, and membership…

The song I chose to analyze was “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” by Brooks and Dunn. This song’s lyrics really speaks to me because I was always told this when I was younger and I rode my horse. My Aunt would always tell me, “If you fall or get thrown, brush it off and Cowgirl up don’t you cry and get back in that saddle.” At first the tone is strong like the father was being towards the daughter telling her that “Cowgirls Don’t Cry”. Then as the lyrics go further on the tone changes and it gets sad because the girl knows that the one she has always looked up too and made proud is becoming weak as the child she used to be. There is deep imagery used in these lyrics when they are describing the dad giving the girl her first pony,…

PBS’s “Second Chance Kids” film is about juveniles who commit heinous crime being giving a second chance to get out of prison and start their life over. The reason for the court creating this new law, enabling inmates that were sentenced to life without parole in prison, is to allow for the opportunity of rehabilitation of the juveniles. Sentencing a juvenile to life without parole is inhumane, because takes away any incentive for that individual to rehabilitate themselves. It is also unfair, because as a minor your brain is still developing which causes minors to act irrational or without thinking, so when a teenage commits a terrible crime that should not be able to define the rest of their life. Some commonalities all the individuals considered…

Issues of discrimination to transgender also occur outside of detention centers. Kit Yan shared the social injustices he experienced as a queer, transgender, and Asian American in his performance Queer Heartache. He became aware of the unacceptance of transgenders in the US when he expressed his newfound queer identity through rainbow stickers on his new Jeep Cherokee. As a result, his lights were smashes and tires were broken. Like transgender detainees, Yan was out casted and assigned to a secluded dorm on college campus. Similarly to how detainees are told to silence when assaulted and rape, Yan was recommended that for his own safety he should remove the stickers which expressed his pride and identity. The treatment of both Yan and transgender detainees illustrates the degree of unacceptance the transgender community has received in the US society.…

It is not uncommon for someone to share their pronouns with an individual and to have them not be used, but it is still not uncommon for someone to not misgender someone using “they” rather than how one typically thinks of misgendering as using “he” or “she”. Similar to the issue of using no pronouns at all for a person, using “they” while less common, is still an act of misgendering a person when they explicitly want to be referred by those pronouns. However, with the existence of gender specific spaces in the world this leaves an open space where another person must assume an individual's gender which can have dangerous consequences. There are situations in which the trans individual has to make the choice for security over privacy of their gender…

A transgender operation involves changing the physical sex of a person. It may involve removing a males penis and creating a vagina and feminising the male or vice versa to change a female to a male. These operations may be done in adulthood because an individual feels that they have been born into the wrong body; while they appear to be one sex they feel strongly that they are the other.…

There is a difference between a “transgender,” “transsexual,” and a “non-gender conforming” individual. A transgender is a person whose self-identity differs from their ascribed status. To clarify, an ascribed status is something that is assigned to a person at birth which cannot be altered such as skin color— in this case— sex; meanwhile, a transsexual is a person who willingly undergoes plastic surgery to actually alter their birth sex. A non-gender conforming person is someone who does not abide from society’s stereotypical views of how they should appear or behave based on what their ascribed status was originally. For example, in society the average female should appear as delicate as a porcelain doll with hair below shoulder length, pastel…
