Introduction
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a known term in society, because it has already been in the spotlights by various organizations already. It is being recognized as a violation of human rights and today still affects millions of young girls. However, especially in western society, people often do not know how serious this issue is. This report contains information about what Female Genital Mutilation is, where it happens and why it happens. It elaborates on the cultural aspect, which plays a highly important role. Furthermore, there will be a summary of anti-FGM organizations and campaigns, which will be followed by a conclusion. The main question that this report needs to answer is: How can FGM be stopped?
"Female genital mutilation violates a person's rights to health, security and physical integrity, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to life when the procedure results in death."
World Health Organization (Female genital mutilation, 2014)
