Felicite's Ignorance In 'Boule De Suif'
The fact the she is ignorance to the risks of burying her brother, reflects the age of Antigone. She is very ignorant and actually scarifies her own life to burry her brothers. Another example of her age is expressed is by her resistance in the male dominated world. Although her sister admits that there is nothing a woman can do in the male dominated world, she refuses what her sister says and starts arguing that her actions were reasonable because of her loyalty to her family. In fact, she is a very emotional woman, which is typical for a young people. Additionally, young people are very idealistic which is also shown by the act of burying her brothers. She does not think that she has anything to lose. However, she still has a fiancé and a …show more content…
Another sign is also how they are divided between men and women. For example in the story “Boule de Suif”, where they spent a night at the hotel, they eat separately men and women. Also, in the story “A Simple Heart” where Felicite’s profession is housekeeper without any real education, but cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children. Another view on the 19th century is also that it is very much based on class. For example in the text “Boule de Suif”, the way the other characters in the text treats the prostitute signals the very little value they add to her. While she shares food with them, they do not share food with her. Additionally, it is also her that is forced to stay a night with the officer so they all can continue their trip. Another view there is not second chance and no idea of rehabilitation. In the story “The Last Day of A Condemned Man”, the main character has been a thief throughout his life and has already been in jail before he got condemned to death. Although he escaped from the first jail, the main character clearly needs help and might have some mental issues. Although it is unclear what the second crime was, the man might just need rehabilitation and then might have been turned into a normal citizen, but at that time, it seems that if a man has debt to the community, then there is no

Compared with her sister, Antigone seems unruly and passionate about her struggle. Antigone is the opposite of Ismene, being slender and outspoken. She refuses to obey Creon, who is not only a man, but also her king, her uncle, and her future father-in-law. It is possible that she choose to take a stand against Creon simply because he symbolizes everything that would block a feminist from progressing as a woman in Thebes. Antigone is essentially battling against a symbolic figure that modern-day feminists have been battling against for years. Without the support of her sister, Antigone decides to march on…
