I. SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT

A. NAME OF THE BUSINESS
Demeter Farm Supplies
Demeter is the goddess of corn, grain, and the harvest. She is the daughter of Cronus and Rhea. It is Demeter that makes the crops grow each year. The first loaf of bread from the harvest is sacrificed to her. Demeter is the goddess of the earth, of agriculture, and of fertility in general. Sacred to her are livestock and agricultural products, poppy, narcissus and the crane.
Demeter is intimately associated with the seasons. Her daughter Persephone was abducted by Hades to be his wife in the underworld. In her anger at her daughter's loss Demeter laid a curse on the world that caused plants to wither and die, the land became desolate. Zeus became alarmed and sought Persephone's return. However, because she had eaten while in the underworld Hades had a claim on her. Therefore, it was decreed that Persephone would spend four months each year in the underworld. During these months Demeter grieves her daughter’s absence, and withdraws her gifts from the world, creating winter. Her return brought the spring.
Demeter is also known for founding the Eleusinian Mysteries. These were huge festivals held every five years. They were important events for many centuries. Yet, little is known of them as those attending were sworn to secrecy. The central tenant seems to have been that just as grain returns every spring after its harvest and wintery death, so too the human soul could be reborn after the death of the body.
According to the Athenian rhetorician Isocrates, Demeter's greatest gifts to humankind were agriculture, particularly of cereals, and the Mysteries which give the initiate higher hopes in this life and the afterlife. These two gifts were intimately connected in Demeter's myths and mystery cults. In Homer's Odyssey she is the blond-haired goddess who separates the chaff from the grain. In Hesiod, prayers to Zeus-Chthonios (chthonic Zeus) and Demeter help the crops grow full and strong.

Strolling down the field of long columns engulfed in rows of wheat and barley occupied my day. The rays of the bright and scorching sun permeated the Greek sky. I remember the cultivation of crops that takes place year around, and the garnering of those crops that diminish the array of produce that span for miles along the vastness of the field. An unexpected cool stream of breeze rustles my brands of immaculate, blond hair. Being the goddess of agriculture, it is my duty to be at the helm of the cultivating and harvesting process that constitute my yearly routine.…

As demonstrated by the suitors, deception can be used maliciously, in efforts to promote one’s personal agenda, even at the expense of another person’s well-being. Hades has a desire to make Persephone his wife, and as depicted by the plan that Hades and Zeus created “without the knowledge of Demeter and the golden sword,” (Demeter 4). Initially taking Persephone for his own enjoyment and pleasure at the expense of Persephone being unable to see her mother, as well as the comforts and lush pastures of the world above, Hades also deprives Demeter of her daughter, inhibiting the plants from…

Greek and Roman mythology is a popular topic around the world. Whether one thinks it’s absurd or fascinating, it has an impact on our culture. Countless people know that the story of how the seasons came about has to do with Greek and Roman mythology. More specifically, the Homeric Hymn to Demeter. I will be comparing and contrasting three versions of this story that are all written in third person. I believe this point of view lets the reader understand most every detail to the fullest extent. Perhaps if a story was written in the view of Demeter or Persephone, we could see more detail on the reactions of each of them. The interpretations of the story of Demeter and Persephone are slightly different in content, but almost exact in underlying meaning.…

In Hymn to Demeter, Persephone is taken by Hades who is the God of the underworld. In the hymn, it says, “He seized her against her will and on his golden chariot carried her off wailing.”(Hymn to Demeter 23) Persephone was in a meadow, picking flowers when she was caught off guard and snatched away in a blink of an eye. The reason why she was taken was not her fault at all but it was because Zeus, that she was taken away. Helios, who is the God of the sun, was approached by Demeter to ask him of her daughter’s disappearance and he told her, “No one else… is responsible except cloud-gathering Zeus, who gave her to Hades, his own brother, to be called his youthful wife. He seized her and with his horses led her wailing loudly down the misty…

Alike Athena, she was born out of his body, specifically his abdomen; having no mother, other gods (and even daring mortals) would name Zeus a virgin, trait which in the near future became the girl's "stamp". Zeus made her the goddess of harvest and prosperity, even though she was a mortal having been born from only half the power, overthrowing Demeter in the desperate attempt to gain his new daughter respect. Virgana soon became loved by everyone, mortal or not: she was a perfectionist, very organized and hard-working; Greece had never harvested crops so rich. Demeter was furious: not only did a mother-less child earn Zeus's love better than herself, but the new addition to the family had already surpassed her in her work as a human-helping goddess. She had to do something about it. Before the next harvesting season had even begun, Demeter poisoned Virgana and took over her old powers, only to be praised for her contribution to the crops. Virgana rose to heavens as a angel due to her good personality (which is still reflected in people carying her zodiac sign) and carrying an ear of grain. After the discovery of Virgana's murderer, Demetra's powers were taken away from her, along with…
