Monica: I’ll play with you. Quincy: For what? Monica: Your heart. This quote is from the very end of the film “Love and Basketball,” one of the most romantic interactions between two well-developed characters in a film that was just perfectly written to capture the emotions involved in following your dream, of living your life and discovering love. I am a serious movie fanatic. I watch movies all the time. But, if I had to pick my favorite one, it would be without a doubt “Love and Basketball.” This is due to the fact that I love basketball, it inspires me to keep reaching my goals and get through challenges in life, and it is a great love story. To begin with, “Love and Basketball” is my favorite movie because I love basketball. This movie obviously has something to do with basketball if you look at the title. I admire the game of basketball and actually have the privilege of being able to play it too. This movie is about two people who love the game of basketball. As you watch this movie, the characters become a part of you. Like a spectator at a basketball game, you just hope they play well with each other and score a victory in the end, on and off the court. The two main characters are Monica Wright and Quincy McCall. The film is actually set in four quarters, just like a basketball game. The film starts on the basketball courts, where both Quincy and Monica are eleven. Monica is a tomboy looking to be the first women in the NBA, but in this neighborhood, dreams and ambitions are one thing, proving yourself another. Monica embarrasses Quincy on the court, leading to a hard foul that leaves a scar on Monica’s face. The second quarter fast forwards to high school where Quincy and Monica take on their respective characters. They are both now the stars of their high school basketball teams. They attend each other’s games, cheer each other on, and they know each other inside and out. Their dreams of making it in the NBA are as strong as ever and with scouts watching their games that dream looks to be coming true. It shows Monica’s high school championship game and how she is trying to impress the scouts looking at her. The third quarter focuses on their career at USC. Quincy finds it easy to adapt to college life, becoming a star player for the team and looking at the possibility of entering the NBA early against his father’s wishes. Monica finds it hard, struggling to make it on a team that views a rookie as an outsider. The fourth quarter begins with Quincy playing in the NBA, no longer a star and actually a bench player who comes out when the game is no longer competitive. Monica follows her dream, but without the WNBA at this time, women end up only playing overseas where they are treated like stars. As you can see, this movie is all about the game of basketball. I love anything to do with basketball and absolutely love watching this movie. I can highly say that anyone who loves the game of basketball, boy or girl, would love this movie just as much as I do. This movie has all you can ever think about basketball. All the good and bad about basketball. It is defiantly a must see movie if you love basketball. As you can see, “Love and Basketball” is my favorite movie because I love basketball. In addition to loving basketball, “Love and Basketball” is my favorite movie because it inspires me to keep reaching my goals and get through challenges in life. In “Love and Basketball, Monica and Quincy are chasing after their dream of making it in the NBA. Quincy wants to be like his dad, a star for the Clippers. Monica just wants to break the glass ceiling and make it in a sport that had yet to have the WNBA. Along the way, it tells of challenges these two have to face and people who do not believe in their dreams. Monica’s mom wants to see Monica perform more feminine roles. She never liked how Monica would always be in Nike shorts and basketball shoes. She always disliked how she would never act like a lady, but always act like a teenage boy. Quincy had a big challenge with his dad while he was playing college ball at USC. His dad was having an affair on his mother and lied right to Quincy’s face when he asked him about it. This threw Quincy off balance and made him decide on going ahead and going against his dad’s wishes of going into the NBA early. Monica also has trouble adapting to her new

college lifestyle at USC. She finds it hard, struggling to make it on a team that views a rookie as an outsider. Stubborn as a male, Monica discovers what is accepted in a man’s game is frowned upon by the women. She must adapt and work that much harder to make it. Monica soon earns her spot as starting point guard after the former starter injures her leg. Monica ends up showing great potential to her coach and keeps the spot as starting point guard. After college, Monica ends up following her dream, but without the WNBA at the time, women end up only playing overseas where they are treated like stars. This movie shows great commitment in peoples goals. It shows how hard they are willing to fight for what they want and dream of doing with their life. I can highly say that anyone who loves to watch a good movie about fighting for what you want and likes to see all of the challenges in life, this is the movie for you. I also believe that “Love and Basketball” is a movie that will inspire anyone to go through with the goals they want to have and make them happen. Dreams do come true. “Love and Basketball” makes you believe. As you can see, “Love and Basketball” is my favorite movie because it inspires me to keep reaching my goals and get through challenges in life. Also, “Love and Basketball” is my favorite movie because it is a great love story. The movie “Love and Basketball” is obviously not all about basketball. It is also about love. The director of this film had said, “My main driving force was to make a black love story with a backdrop of basketball.” Well that’s exactly what he did. The film started off with Monica and Quincy when they were eleven. They were playing basketball and soon Quincy develops a crush and the two become boyfriend and girlfriend for all of two seconds, before brawling with one another in what becomes a prelude of things to come. Then the movie fast forwards to high school, where Monica and Quincy are the stars of their high school basketball teams. They each go to one another’s games, cheer each other on, and know each other inside and out. They ended up getting back together after prom. After prom they opened each other’s acceptance letters to college, and then lead to the most pivotal scene in the film when Monica and Quincy finally express their love for one another. They end up starting their college lives together, but eventually the perfect basketball couple falls apart when Quincy’s father admits to cheating on Quincy’s mother and Monica makes the wrong decision when choosing between Love and Basketball. They then go separate ways, until Quincy tears his ACL in a basketball game. Monica comes to see him in the hospital after she had finished her last year playing ball overseas. Monica then finds out that Quincy plans to get married to a women. Monica then realizes she is missing something in her life. In the end, a final basketball game is played between the two with the stakes higher than ever before and the result changing both their lives forever. They play for each other, but if Quincy won, he was to go marry his fiancé. Quincy ends up winning, but realizes his true feelings for Monica. This love story is very inspiring to me. I just love stories like this one. It makes me want to watch it over and over again. I have honestly never seen or heard of a love story quite like this one. I guess you can say this is why I love it so much. I can highly say that a lot of women who love a good love story would enjoy this movie. Even some guys would like to watch it too. I highly recommend watching it, because once I watched it, I was hooked. As you can see, “Love and Basketball” is my favorite movie because it is a great love story. In sublimation, my favorite movie, without a doubt, is “Love and Basketball.” This is due to the fact that I love basketball, it inspires me to keep reaching my goals and get through challenges in life, and it is a great love story. I can honestly say this movie can appeal to many watchers. It has so many different aspects in it, that not a lot of people cannot dislike it. It has drive, basketball, romance, and it even has comedy. In only two hours, the viewer watches the characters grow and realize what is important in their lives. They see a love story, a story about growing up, a tale about struggle, a story about strength, and a story about responsibility. They also see a story that will inspire anyone to follow

their dreams and make sure those dreams never take them away from their dreams. This is defiantly a must see movie! So, go now and start watching it!
