On March 19, 2015, 27-year-old Afghan woman named Farkhunda Malik was beaten and slain by a mob in front of the public.
The mob “threw her body off a roof, ran over it with a car, set it on fire and at the end, dragged 300m, threw it into the Kabul River near one of the Afghan capital’s most renowned mosques, the Shah Doshamshera.”
Two Afghan police officers tried to help her by pulling her onto the roof of a low shed, but the enraged men picked up poles and hit her until she fell down. Although she struggled to stand, the attackers snatched her hijab as she fell and the mob continued kicking, jumping on her.
Many who were involved in the mob filmed one another beating her to death, and uploaded clips of her body on social media. Hundreds were holding onto their phones to get a glimpse of the violent, and watched her beaten to

When she was accused of such crime, policeman Habid Shah claimed that she said, “I am a Muslim and Muslims do not burn Koran.” However, more people gathered and it got out of controlled.
According to CNN, 26 people had been arrested and had confessed to their role in Farkhunda’s death. 13 Policemen who stood by and did not contribute to stop the attack are also put under investigation. Additionally, Afghanistan detective stated that they haven’t found any evidence that supported the claim that Farkhunda burned Qu’ran. Instead, they found out she had actually confronted men who dishonored the shrine.
The fortuneteller was not found guilty, the head of leading the event had a death sentence, and the police officers that could not stop the fighting received slaps on the wrist. Afghan lawyers agreed that most of the accused ones did not receive fair trials. Farkhunda’s family, fearing that the killers would not be held accountable, fled the country.
Rest in Peace, Farkhunda, and wish the best luck to her

Before the Taliban is in power, there are bombs over Kabul everyday. These bombs destroy entire neighborhoods, and kill girls walking home from school. Tariq’s father’s health is failing, and staying in Kabul is not helping. Tariq and his family are leaving Afghanistan, and he has to leave Laila and the place he lived for his whole life. Tariq asks Laila to marry him and come with his family, but she has to say no. Laila is the only child left in her family, and if she left Kabul, it would destroy her parents. Tariq is also an only child, and if Tariq stayed in Afghanistan, his parents would have stayed as well, and they would have died in Kabul. Leaving her mother and father would devestate them, and if Tariq did not go with his parents, they would not leave, and then they would die in Kabul. The brutality of the Taliban and their bombs ripped people from their loved ones before they were even in power. One of the hallmarks of fascism is glorifying the state over the individual (Authier). The Taliban leaders demonstrated this by putting their cause of taking over the government before the lives of Afghan civilians. The Taliban also tears Mariam from her family: Laila, Aziza, and Zalmai. When Mariam kills Rasheed, she does it in self defense, and in defense of Laila. Mariam’s trial lasted 15 minutes, and it ended in a death sentence. There was no jury, no lawyer in her defense, no appeal, and no…

Humans are naturally prone to letting their imaginations run wild to a point beyond reason. The hysteria that was presented in all three cases proves that humans do not take in to account what really surrounds them, only an opinion glorified through irrational outbursts from on singular person that escalates into something way out of proportion. If one could take into consideration all of the logical components of every “witch-hunt” they would not have occurred to that great of an extent. If reason were to overcome the emotional factor many lives would have been spared and hysteria and fear would not have spread like a wildfire taking its victims one by…
