The cry of Allah-u-Akbar resounded on all sides. Now it took Muhammad but two brief years, not only to bring the whole of Arabia under the banner of Islam, but at the same time to work a mighty transformation, sweeping away all corruptions and uplifting the nation to the lifties height of spirituality.

The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) left Madinah on Saturday, 25 Dhu’l-Qa’dah after offering four rak’ahs for Zuhr. Before the prayer, in a sermon, he explained the essentials of putting on Ihram, the pilgrim dress, and the obligations and ‘sunan’ of the Pilgrimage.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered his Farewell Sermon on the 9th Day - Arafah - of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th month of Islamic calender, in the Uranah valley of Arafat near Makkah. It was the occasion of the annual rites of Hajj (the pilgrimage) in the 10th year AH.

Hajj is a five day quest which takes place in Mecca, and it includes many spiritual rituals. Mecca is located in the western Mountains of Saudi Arabia, it has been considered as sacred territory even before Islam. People not allowed to hunt or cut the trees in this area. The Kaba, known as the celestial house of God, is a simple stone building covered in a beautiful hand sewn cloth made with gold, standing 50 feet high, and is located in the center of Mecca. Muslims believe that Adam built the Kaba with cosmic plans handed down by God, and re-built by Abraham after the great flood. The South East corner of the Kaba embraces a black stone within silver, some believe it fell from the heavens, and Abraham used it during construction. Islam believes that Abraham started the pilgrimage, he is also known as the father to Jews, and Christians. It is a great feeling going to a place where it’s a huge matter in one’s life. “Revisiting Sacred Ground” N. Scott Momaday had made a pilgrimage which his Kiowa ancestors. Momaday has said,” There are certain villages, and towns mountains and plains that, having seen them, walked in them, lived in them, even for a day, we keep forever in the mind’s eye.” Just like how Momaday relived his ancestor’s trails, I had a chance as well. I was lucky enough to be able to go on such a sacred journey that people would pay in thousands of dollars. The pilgrimage I would like to talk about is the one I took to a sacred city in India called Badrinath. I follow Hinduism, and in Hinduism there is a saying/belief that if we go on this enriching, and spiritual journey, we will go to heaven after we pass. I have a guru, like a living god, who I listen to and look up to. He took me on this spiritual journey.…
