Detail – Model 5391 Single Chamber Temporary Pacemaker

Model 5391

The single-chamber model is defined by its light weight, ease of operation, durability, and dependability. It is intended for temporary atrial or ventricular pacing and supports synchronous (VVI, AAI) and asynchronous (VOO, AOO) operating modes.
Constant voltage output
Basic pacing rate to 180 ppm
Rapid atrial pacing at times 2 and times 4 of the basic rate up to 720 ppm
Audible tone for sensitivity
Easy set-up of pacing parameters by ergonomically designed dials
Protective cover to safeguard against accidental changes to settings
Long battery lifetime: up to 38 days of operation with a single 9 V Alkaline battery

The patient was brought to the heart cath lab. Left infraclavicular area was prepared and draped in the usual sterile fashion. Local anesthesia was achieved with 1% plain Xylocaine. Femoral vein was punctured with an 18-guage needle. A guide wire was advanced through the needle. Sterile technique was used throughout the entire procedure. Fluoroscopic guidance was employed for all internal manipulations. Afterward, about a 5-cm skin-entry incision site was made, and a pocket was made with blunt dissection to the pectoralis major fossa using Metzenbaum scissors and Bovie for proper hemostasis. Afterward, a 10 French introducer was advanced over the wire. Trocar was removed. A permanent ventricular lead was advanced through the sheath, which was peeled away and the lead advanced to the right ventricular apex and affixed in the usual fashion. Afterward, the guide wire, which had been preserved after pulling the first sheath away, was used to implant a second sheath, 10 French, whereupon the Oscar atrial screw-in wire was advanced through the sheath. The sheath was retracted, allowing for uncoiling of the J. Then the stay stylet was advanced. Satisfactory pacing numbers were obtained and the lead screwed into the atrial wall with three clockwise screw motions. Prior to this we had obtained satisfactory pacing numbers, threshold numbers, and sensitivity numbers with the ventricular wire.…

    11. Describe the pathway of conduction from the atria to the ventricles and correlate this conduction with the ECG waves. The SA node is designated as the pacemaker of the heart. From the SA node, the electrical impulse spreads through interatrial tracts that spread the electrical impulse through the right and left atria and therefore cause atrial depolarization. As a result, a P-wave is observed. After the atria depolarize, the electrical impulse spreads through the internodal tracts and reach the atrioventricular node (AV node). The AV node has its own pacing rhythm that serves as a back up pacemaker in case the SA node fails to initiate an electrical impulse. Consequently, the AV node slows down the electrical impulse to allow the atria to project their blood into the ventricles. From the AV node, the impulse travels through the bundle of His, which bifurcate into the left and right bundle branches. From the branches, the impulse travels through the Purkinje fibers and allows the electrical impulse to end…

The North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology(NASPE) has classified them by which heart chamber is paced, which chamber is sensed, how the pacemaker responds to a sensed beat, and whether it is programmable. Despite this broad types of models, all pacemakers are essentially composed of a battery that stimulates the heart, lead wires that send electrical pulses towards the heart, and circuitry which is the computer that controls everything in the process. The main four basic types which have different purposes are:…

I would chose the NFL website because I feel like they have a better knowledge of the athletes and I think they would be the first one to know what player is playing and who’s hurt. The NFL website has notes and facts about the player if you just click on his name and it will show you what there facts are. The type of league I would pick is a football league because that is the sport that I know the most of and pay the most attention to it.…

As a nurse one must become a scientist of sorts and must be familiar with technical nursing terminology. Atrial fibrillation, or AF, is a cardiac dysrhythmia in which “multiple rapid impulses from many atrial foci depolarize the atria in a totally disorganized manner at a rate of 350 to 600 times per minute” [ (Ignatavicius & Workman, 2010) ]. A dysrhythmia is a disorder of the heartbeat involving a disturbance in cardiac rhythm and an irregular heartbeat; whereas an arrhythmia is basically a fast or irregular heartbeat caused by a disorder in the heart 's electrical system. Tachydysrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm with a rate greater than 100 beats per minute. Cardiac output refers to the volume of blood ejected from the heart in each minute. The normal adult range is 4 to 7 liters per minute [ (Ignatavicius & Workman, 2010) ]. Cardioversion is a procedure used on AF patients, which basically is the synchronized counter-shocking of the heart. It is a procedure used to restore a fast or irregular heartbeat to a normal sinus rhythm [ (Sutton, 2010) ].…
