Fanny's Strengths
“Strong as a Rock”
Fanny has many strengths, but she believes that her greatest strength is that she is a natural born leader. As the oldest of six children, she has learned what it is like to be a leader and to take charge when necessary. The fact that she is a leader brings her great responsibility since she has to help her younger siblings with what they need, no matter what it is. Along with being a leader in her household, Fanny is also a leader outside of her household. Fanny is a captain of her cheerleading team and she takes charge of her team alongside her coach and helps with decision making and keeping the girls under control.

However, her one of her most favorite things in the whole world is cheerleading. Fanny started cheering in middle school and she has fallen in love with it ever since. Each year she goes back to the open gyms and tries out year after year. Cheerleading is something that she loves to do, not only because it is a great sport but also because as a cheerleader, she has made sisters that will always be there for her and that she can always turn to and trust with her life.

“Friends that Became Family”
Fanny sees herself as a very lucky person because of the friends that she has around her. Although she has many friends that she loves, there are a select few, which she would never trade for the world. These girls are Luz Guerrero, Adriana Gonzalez, Erika Rodriguez, Leyna Garcia, Yeislly Rodriguez and Summer Zito. These girls help Fanny get through everything and they have her back no matter what. Not all of her closest friends are girls; two very close friends of hers are Brian Rigotti and Moises Polanco. These people, Fanny considers as family and she could not be luckier to have them in her life.

Benjamin Franklin and Fanny Fern’s writings exemplified, and even sparked gender role controversy for over many years during the mid-1800s and the mid-1900s. Franklin’s writings primarily showed up in daily newspapers and appealed more to a male audience, rather than a wider female audience that Fern had obtained in her writings as a social critic. In the readings “Tom Pax’s Conjugal Soliloquy,” Fanny Fern and “The Speech of Miss Polly Baker,” by Benjamin Franklin, they both demonstrate opposite gender roles, illustrate situations in which women are not being paid attention to, and their audiences appeal to the gender role opposite to the…

All can relate to that one special time of the year, Christmas, when whole families unite and spend hours endlessly sharing stories, making memories, and of course, opening presents! What happens though, when all of the sentimental value of Christmas is replaced solely with physical value, the gifts? What would Christmas be like then? Richard Rodriguez takes the readers through one of his annual Christmases and brings to light, through his thoughts, the disconnect that exists between himself, his siblings, and his parents. Rodriguez’ chronological presentation of events with flashbacks, short, abrupt syntax, light-hearted attention to detail and concerned tone contribute to suggest his worried attitude toward his family.…

In McKinley High school there are three breeds of students. There are the popular kids, otherwise known as the cheerios, with their glamour and cars, the average school goers, and the lower echelon Freaks and Geeks, who are counting down the days until graduation. McKinley has a rigid cast system that went silently acknowledged by all that attended. The cheerios were hardly ever seen with others outside their own party and the rest followed this example. In fact the entire student body practically scrutinized or glorified every action by the cheerios, giving them an enormous amount of appeal and influence in the school. Caitlyn Carpenter is a straight A student, captain of the cheerleading squad, and a cheerio nonetheless. Her father has high hopes she will get accepted into Harvard and her friends love having her around. David Reynolds is quite the opposite. He gets into fights; he challenges teachers, and has a record with the police. With all the amounting pressure and expectations Caitlyn is facing she takes on an interest in David.…

I wasn’t born a leader. No tragic event made me open my eyes to become a leader. In actuality, my mother enrolled me into an all-female women’s empowerment leadership program without my consent. I was not insecure, my grades were superb; I was however, an active follower of the most uninfluential group of friends every parent dreads. Being a follower instead of a leader is a very childlike trait. It takes an adult, woman or man, to step up and take charge in doing what they know is best for themselves and those who follow. When I’m not being a quirky goofball Emma Jean Bouie, I’m being sophisticated, empowered woman little miss Nadia Moffet. Ever since I met Nadia Moffet, C.E.O of The Queens Foundation and Miss North Carolina 2010, she has instilled something spiritually and mentally inside of me that has helped shape the young leader I am today. From the age of 13, I was no longer just Emma Jean Bouie, I slowly became, “a beautiful, powerful and strong beyond measure woman.’…

During the times of leadership, I am completely unaware that I am being a leader; only that I try to help the best way I can, to make situations easier for others. For example, giving input on how to create a better workflow or trying to get my daughter’s cheer team the items they need. In turn, my leadership with the help of others would result in 15 girls attending UC Berkley Cheer Camp. With money being the main challenge, I began brainstorming different ideas to solve the problem. Knowing I could not raise the money alone, I called a parent meeting encouraging others to participate. By having this meeting, I soon realized how much of a leader I was. Consequently, we raised a total of $5000.00, exceeding the amount required for cheer camp. As a result the girls not only learned that hard work will pay off in addition, it also brought them closer as a team.…

In 2020, I was at a summer retreat before the big tennis tournament. The Junior Female Tennis Tournament of South Dakota to be exact. I was with one of my close friends, Janis. Janis was in one of the other cabins, so I was basically on my own. I had five other people in my cabin. There was Tina, Harmony, Alana, Flora, and Camila. We all were great friends from the start because we all were so diverse. It was sad because we all went to the same school but never talked. Tina had red and yellow coiled hair and sapphire eyes. She was one of the spoiled rich kids whose parents forced her to play tennis. Harmony had blackish-blue hair and honey eyes, and she was the most kind hearted, sincere person you could ever meet in your life.…
