Famous Entrepreneur Report
For my famous entrepreneur I decided to do Bill Gates. Bill Gates started the company called Microsoft. Bill Gates was at one point the richest person in the world. He took interest in software when he was only 13 years old. Bill Gates wrote a payroll program for Science Inc. when he was in high school. He scored an almost perfect score on the SAT. He was accepted by Harvard to study pre-law, but he spent most of his time on the school computers. He met Steve Balmer at Harvard who is the current CEO of Microsoft. Bill Gates dropped out of college the write a code for MITS. It only took them 8 weeks; this is when Microsoft was formed.
Microsoft makes many products including Microsoft Office, Xbox, Windows, tablets, phones, Skype, and Internet Explorer. Microsoft was founded on April 4th 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in Albuquerque. In 1980, Microsoft formed a partnership with IBM which aloud IBM computers to have Microsoft preloaded on them. Microsoft launched many versions of Microsoft Windows in the 1990s. They had 90% of the world’s personal computers. Microsoft also invited Office, a set of programs used to create documents, slideshows and worksheets. Office started as Office 1.0 in November of 1990. The latest version is Microsoft Office 2013, but the most used at this time is Office 2010. Microsoft’s corporate headquarters is located in Redmond, Washington. It is called the Microsoft Campus. The company has about 90,000 employees world-wide. Gates announced that he would be leaving Microsoft in 2008 but would remain as a chair. He still helps with the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. He has given 3.6 billion dollars to global health efforts, 2 billion to improve learning in North America, and about 900 million in projects.
