Appreciate the people you have because you won't have them long. In the book “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton a boy that was born on the wrong side of town wishes he was not considered a “Greaser” and less than his brothers. So when he gets a chance to be to feel like a “Soc” he likes it. In the middle of the story he gets close to Dally that he didn't like that much in the beginning. Ponyboy gets close to people that he thought he'd have for a long time.…
Who was the one to cause the predicaments that the Greasers had to go through? The Outsiders is not a true story, but makes the reader feel like it was real. The main character, Ponyboy, is part of a gang named the Greasers. Conflicts sparked between the Greasers and their enemies, the Socs or Socials. Ponyboy, Darry, Dally, Sodapop, Two-bit and Johnny went through obstacles and problems caused by the Socs. Throughout the book, The Outsiders, there were many problems and conflicts that the Greasers had to go through because of the Soc’s imprudent decisions.…
In the beginning of the story darry is constantly undermining ponyboy and acts like the leader of the group at all times. Darry also can get very easily angered as on page 50 he strikes ponyboy causing him to run away and start the main storyline. Later near the middle of the story…
In the book the “The Outsiders’’, S.E Hinton tells a story of the conflict two rival group ‘’soc and greaser’’ reading through chapter one, the character I admire the most was Darry which is protagonist’s brother Pony’s brother, Darry was one character in the book has the most power. Darry has two younger brother Pony and Soda. When their parent died Darry is the only supporter at home. He loves his two brother very much but show it in the weird way instead of concert and understanding he is protecting and stern them, he would be so handsome if his eyes looks little sympathy, Soda and Darry has the opportunity to go to college but they missed not the financial problem just because they devotion their younger brother Pony so much won’t leave…
S.E. Hinton wrote an amazing book called The Outsiders. This book has many amazing characters. So many of these characters are heroic. Darry has strength, Two-bit has loyalty, Dally has courage, Johnny has kindness, Soda has charm, but Pony has loyalty, courage, and kindness combined. That is my personal definition of a hero.…
The quote in question is “All good is destined to be defeated.” The quote means, for every good guy, there is a bad guy. For every hero, there is a villain. Everyone who has ever tried to do something good has been destined to be stopped. The quote not only speaks for literature, but for everything. If you look from now, all the way back to ancient times, you will see examples of this in many works of literature. The book The Outsiders is a good representation of the quote.…
The main character of “The Outsiders” was Ponyboy Curtis, the younger brother of Darry and Sodapop Curtis. Ponyboy is very unique from all of the other characters, they are all unique. He isn’t the tuff like Dally, the pet like Johnny, the leader like Darry, the silly one like Sodapop, the wisecrack like two-bit, or even the confident and arrogant one like Steve. Ponyboy is quiet, smart, young, and kind. One of Ponyboys obstacles in the book was his brother Darry, the leader of the gang. “I could tell it was Darry though - partly because of the voice and partly because Darry’s always rough with me without meaning to be. ‘ “I didnt mean to!” Darry shouted… “Thats all i hear out of you! Cant you think of anything?” “Darry…” Sodapop began, but…
The Outsiders, directed by Francis Ford Coppola was released in 1983. Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) is a greaser whose parents were killed in a car accident. He and his friends: Johnny (Ralph Macchio), Dally (Matt Dillon), Two-Bit (Emilio Estevez), and Steve (Tom Cruise), and brothers, Darry (Patrick Swayze) and Soda (Rob Lowe), are always getting in fights with a gang called the Socs. One night, best friend Johnny, are attacked by Socs. The Socs almost drown Ponyboy, and Johnny, defending Ponyboy, stabs Bob (a Soc). Pony, and Johnny find a church to hide out in. A bunch of little kids are trapped inside the church which caught on fire, and Pony, Johnny, and Dally save them. Ponyboy gets out ok, Dally burns his arm, but a huge piece of wood falls on Johnny, breaking his back, and burning him badly. At the end, two of the greasers end up losing their life and both gangs still fight and hate each other. I think that The Outsiders was decent, at best. Please spare yourself save the hour and…
Darry and Soda had different points of view on how to interact with their brother Ponyboy. On page 2, the books states, “Soda’s never hollering at me all the time the way Darry is, or treating me as if I am six instead of fourteen.” From this quote, the reader is told that Darry treats Ponyboy differently than Soda. It can be inferred that Darry is more strict with Ponyboy while Soda may not be as strict. On the other hand, “Soda’s always happy-go-lucky and grinning, while Darry’s hard and firm and rarely grins at all.” (The Outsiders, pg. 2) This quote shows another example of how Soda is different from Darry because it shows Soda being more joyful and relaxed, but Darry is more stern and not warm. Furthermore, the way both brothers treat Ponyboy demonstrates Hinton’s theme that family is there to support each other at all times because both brothers clearly care about Pony but show it in different…
Caring-displaying kindness and concern for others. In a novel, the Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton, Sodapop is a caring brother and friend. S.E. Hinton demonstrates this by using characterization to show how characters change throughout the book. Sodapop is cheerful, protective, and caring.…
My essay is about the power of siblings. Both in The outsiders and my essay Siblings bond over death or the thought of death. In The Outsiders Ponyboy and his brothers, including the greasers bonded over the death of his parents and Jonny, their good friend. It’s sad but true, people tend to get closer when they realize how short life is. My brother and I bonded over the fact that we would have to help my mom together. Being able to have someone there for you can give you a sense of safety because believe or not the closest person in your life should be your sibling. I feel bad for people who don’t have older siblings or lost them because they will never know what it’s like to have someone who already went through what you’re going through.…
Overtime, I have noticed some kids are supposed to grow up too fast. There is going to be one time in your life where you are going to have to make some big decisions. You have to know right from wrong because you do not want to end up being in a horrible position. Some kids are already using drugs or drinking things they aren’t supposed to. I believe that you shouldn’t follow others mistakes and crimes while you should follow someone’s success and hard work. Sometimes I think some kids have to grow so fast is because of where they live. In this essay, I will tell you how some kids are forced to grow up too fast and how the book The Outsiders will be a great example on my theme.…
“Ponyboy, listen don’t get tough. You’re not like the rest of us and don’t try to be…”-Two-bit Matthews Page 171. The Outsiders is a novel written by S.E Hinton in the 1960’s, the novel is based on a true story. The story is about Ponyboy, a teenager that belongs in the gang called Greasers. There is another gang that opposes the Greasers called the Socs. The two gangs live in two sides of Oklahoma, the Greasers being in the east, and the Socs being in the west. The Socs and the Greasers often fight each other. To society, the Greasers are low class and cause trouble, while the Socs are rich and can do no harm. Ponyboy dramatically changes throughout the novel, he starts to wonder if he should model himself to the members of his gang or follow his own path. There are three reasons to support my thesis statement.…
I think a simple answer to your question is yes. Although some stories may cast aside the older characters or not even include them in the first place, there are some stories where the mother or father character is an important part of the overall narrative and even drives the story forward. In stories where there are a lack of older characters, there is usually a character that can be singled out as an "adult" character even if they fall into what we consider the YA range. In The Outsiders for example, this was the character of Darry. He's supposed to be a greaser and everyone considers him to be one, but with his level of maturity and age he is elevated to something more.…
Darrel (Darry) Curtis is 20 years of age and is legal guardian of his brothers, Ponyboy Curtis and Sodapop Curtis, due to his parents dying in a car wreck 8 months before the events in the book take place. ‘Darry is six feet two, and broad-shouldered and muscular. He has dark brown hair that kicks out in front and a slight cow lick in the back-just like Dad’s- but Darry’s eyes are his own.’ (Page 7) Darry never got the chance to go to College as the family couldn’t afford it and he doesn’t have enough time between looking after his brothers, and working two jobs. ‘But we just didn’t have the money for him to go to college, even with the athletic scholarship he won. And now he didn’t have time between jobs to even think about college.’ (Page 20) During this novel, we perceive Darry as being unpleasant & cold; ‘Darry isn’t ever sorry for anything he does. It seems funny to me that he should look exactly like my father and act exactly the opposite from him.’ (Page 7), But that is only the protagonists (Ponyboy’s) opinion of Darry. Later on in the novel, Pony realises that everything that Darry does, is for his family.…
