Family Nurse Personal Statement

“Quack! Quack!” she exclaimed. “Yes it is bath time!” I replied as I gave my patient her nightly bath at my very first job as a nursing assistant for disabled adults. I remember initially being so excited to learn new procedures, medications and diseases. However, what I ultimately valued most during this experience was forming trusting, ongoing relationships with my patients (and learning that “Quack” meant bath!). The inimitable bond formed caring for these individuals motivated me to seek out a career in which I can provide meaningful and personalized care over time. I plan to build upon this unique educational background with a doctorate level nursing education through The College of Saint Scholastica. As a family nurse practitioner with a background in child development I will be able to provide a holistic understanding of the needs of children, families, and adults at all developmental levels. A doctoral degree in nursing will also allow me to practice at the full scope and independence now granted to the advanced practice nurse. With this autonomy I plan to not only create significant connections with my patients, but also promote wellness in the community through research and implementation of evidence-based practices. As a primary care provider I can make a lasting impact on my patients, their families, and the community by offering the most current practices available and providing education to improve patient outcomes.
