Family Encouragement
Family Encouragement Cheril Zacarias
English II W3

April 7, 2011 Narrative Essay

Many people are lucky because they are US citizens and have an easier life. My family has told me I have the opportunity to go to college since they didn’t. They’ve encouraged me in many ways for example making good decisions, having a good life and encouraging me by giving me support. Are a couple of ways they have influenced me. By making good decisions I won’t have a terrible life. One option can be to go to college. Doing something with my life is better than working without a diploma from college. If I don’t go to college, I wouldn’t gain the same amount of money as if I was just working in a regular job. Another reason of making decisions is if I were to drop out of school. To start, what would basically happen is I would have nothing in life. For instance I won’t have a solid future nor job or enough money. Additionally, working on something without a great future isn’t worth it because usually one isn’t happy while working at McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Housekeeping ect. Having a good life will make me have a much painless upcoming life. The first reason is being someone that’s important. For example, being something one wants to be is perfect because it makes one happy when they reach their goal. Another example is one show that they can do it and they should go to college as well. Second reason is this would be necessary for the family. If someone had any problems its easy if one’s a nurse, doctor, fireman ect. In comparison showing that one has a good job; the family should do the same.
Encouraging me by giving m me support helps a lot to think better. In the first place by actually doing well in school. A good way is passing all my classes that is something very crucial. In other words no ditching because or else I would miss work, homework, tests ect. The same as having bad friends since they’re the ones that can give one ides to do bad

Basic Truth 3 in CORNERSTONES for community college success is:“One person and only one person has the power to determine your thoughts and the direction of your future. It is you!” This is the start of Basic Truth 3, a truth I seem to forget. I tend to want others to fix things for me; they make the plans, I execute them. In college, I can’t continue this habit. If I fulfill my dream of becoming a veterinarian then I will be the most highly educated person in my family. Basic truths 1 and 2 seem obvious to me. I have always known that life is made of choices. Everything you do or don’t do is a choice and choosing to work hard in school has always been something I was taught. Truths 3 and 4 are a bit harder. These are the truths that…

“You need to go to college if you want to succeed in life.” This is the statement that most parents tell their kids in that final year of high school or even sooner. While teenagers are enjoying their final days of high school, parents are focusing on the next step. Most of them want their kids to go to a good college and obtain a good education in order to be “successful in life,” but is this really the case. There is a lot of talk about successful people that didn't go to college or simply drop out after a couple of semesters. People like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Michael Dell, drop out of college and became very successful entrepreneurs. If you, not go, or drop out of college, will this happen to you? As of June 2015, 70% of students will attend a 4-year college, but less than 2/3 of them will actually graduate. If a person only has a high school diploma, the majority of them earn 43% less than a college graduate. People without a college degree are twice as likely to be unemployed (Beckstead). My goal in this paper is to discuss why is…

At this age all students are thinking about is what major should they study and what career will take them on the path they desire. Professor Mark Edmundson gives his own personal opinion on how you should choose an occupation in his essay: “Who Are You and What Are You Doing Here? A Word to the Incoming Class”. Some students would rather spend the rest of their lives walking into the same building doing the same dull job that can’t stand as long as they are making a lot of money. Others look past their yearly income and continue doing what they do because it’s what they love to do. According to Edmundson “To get it, you'll need to struggle and strive, be strong, and occasionally even piss off some admirable people” (Edmundson 406). His thesis states that you need to stick to your guns and stand up for yourself to get an education. What…
