Another novel that the use of extremes comes into play is We All Fall Down written by Robert Cormier. For instance, the book starts out face paced, and galvanizing by having a group of drunk teens vandalise a house. Furthermore, the beginning gets more drastic when Karen comes into the house, resulting in the some of the boys to rape her, and then push her down the stairs. Having said that, this caused Karen to be severely injured, and she was put in coma for six months. This shows how the introduction of the novel was very extreme to say the least. With that being said, a second example of the use of extremes is how the character the avenger, also known as Mickey, acted and his overall role in the book Confirming to Heidi “ Mickey Stallings…

The crisp fall air lapped my face like a little puppy licking a boy. The air felt like a little leather whip was hitting my face constantly, giving me burns. But of course I knew it was windburn. I was sitting up in my favorite tree. I looked into the distance and saw the brown, red, and yellow leaves coming down from their trees and bushes.…

I strongly believe that if one is to be successful in society, setting goals and prioritizing them is very crucial. Having your goals set and prioritizing them does not only give you a clear focus on things you have to do, but it helps you to organize your plans so that you can set time limit and boundaries in achieving those goals. There are so many goals that I want to achieve my life. Since goals can only be achieved if they are realistic, timing and attainable, I have categorized my goals into long and short term goals.…

“I’ve been drinking since I was twelve, but I don’t think I was exactly twelve. Maybe older, maybe younger. I’m a little tipsy now but that’s not what you want to hear. I was once told I drank like an eel, I’m not sure what that meant, but again that’s not what you want to hear. You want me to sit here and tell you the exact traumatic moment when I began drinking; It was the first time I ever had that nightmare. The next day I asked my dad why drank, he said ‘I drink to forget’. He never told me what he was trying to forget. I thought ‘I drinking makes you forget, maybe I’ll forget the dream.’ So I drank a couple of beers then went to sleep. The dream was worse than before, but that was the cycle every night for the past thirty-five years.”…

There had been only a couple days left till the very first football game of my senior year. The team we are playing was the Haywood County Spurs, and the game we had been preparing and practicing for since our sophomore year. The sun was blistering hot, shining down on my shoulder pads, baking me in my uniform like a freshly made apple pie on a summer day. This only made practice worse as I put all effort into it as I could. I was so sore and fatigued and happy that by the end of the week we wouldn’t be having any more sweat dripping practices. 100 yard dashes and High-jumps were not something people wanted to do every day, that’s for sure. And after those warm-up exercises we moved onto play calling. The team worked hard together during practices and repetitively did each and every play so that they came to us like a fond habit. We wanted to have these plays inscribed in our minds as we slept.…
