Fallen Angels

Many people in this world are unsure of what their future goals may be just like this young man named Richie Perry. Richie is a smart African American and was a well behaved child who had graduated from high school in Harlem. His mother who loved to drink didn’t have enough money to send him to college. Richie believed he should join the army so he can escape his future so he joins the army. He’s then sent to Vietnam to fight in the war to fulfill his duty. Richie claims he joined the army to find out the meaning of war, hero, good, and evil, he will soon find out what all of those mean. This book has been challenged many times, and also in many different locations. It was banned in Arlington, TX., Junior High School libraries in 2001. It was challenged in Fairfax, VA., in school libraries in 2003 and also was banned from George County in Mississippi. Basically banned or challenged in many other locations all through the years till 2013. And the book was always banned or challenged for the main purpose which was violence, racism, and offensive language. All these parents had a problem with that so they decided it’d be best to ban the book or challenge it. Everyone has the right to freedom of speech and no one should have the right to take away someones opinion just because he or she thinks it’s bad for her his or her own child. If a parent has an issue with a book, then therefore her own child should not read it. No one has the right to take that away from others just because one doesn’t like it. This is why teachers or schools should hand out permission slips or some kind of consent about the book they are going to read. I don’t think anyone should have the right to ban a book. If you don’t want your child to read it, then by all means take that right away from your child. But not from others, especially if they are not there parent and their own parents have no problem with the book. You have all rights to speak for your child, but don’t have the right to
