This poem talking about two different culture and languages. And poem express and describle feelings between the two cultures, two languages wandering him, and Li-Young Lee’s joy, anger, gains and losses. The third poem named is Early in the morning. This poem have two main person, one is his mother and other one is his father. We can see his father is so lovoing his wife.
‘While the long grain is softening’ and ‘the salted Winter Vegetbale is sliced’ (Li-Young Lee), from these two sentences see a trandtional Chinese family, and tranditional chinese breakfast. ‘ my mother glides an ivory comb through her hair, heavy and black as calligrapher’s ink’ ( Li-Young Lee). Black hair represent Asian people, and Li-Young Lee use calligrapher’s ink to metaphor his mother’s hair and color. Through this we can know his mother’s hari are very beautifaul, and use calligrapher this word, explains his love of Chinese culture, evoking his Chinese knowledge and culture.
In stanza two, ‘ she sits at foot of the bed. My father watches, listens for the music of comb aginst hair’ ( Li-Young Lee), his father watching his mother comb hair, how lovely picture. And his father was very enjoy watching his wife comb hari, because Li-Young Lee use listen music to represent his father’s feeing. Li-Young Lee’s father think the sound of comb aginst hair that is music. Li-Young Lee can see his father watched his mother, that means he watched them two people. Through this we can find his family is a lovely and sweet family, everyone so loves everyone, and not fight. The sound of the combing is so beautiful that the speaker imagines it is "music" to his father's ears.Such subtle music could not be heard, however, without utter silence, and it is this silence that pervades this poem and acts as backdrop to the
