I. Background of the Novel
Fairy Tale Fail is a novel that is published on 2012 by Summit Media at Mandaluyong City, Philippines.
The author wrote the story to show the readers that we will make out own fairy tale story; that this story is not based on movies and fictional books but this depends on how we decision and how will destiny play our lives The author, Mina Esguerra dedicated it to her best friends, who set the bar a tiny bit higher every time. Maybe the author is inspired by those who want a fairy tale story but did not ended well.
The novel has sixteen chapters that are about Ellie’s life when his ‘prince’, Don, broke up with her and how she moved on. It is a typical novel about a girl who wants to have a fairy tale story.
The novel won the Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards that made the book best selling.
II. Summary
Exposition: Ellie Manuel is a twenty something professional that believes in fairy tales and based her life to it. She has a stable relationship with the good guy, Don Padilla, in her corporate “barkada”. Don is a responsible person which is Ellie’s ideal guy. There is this ‘Rock Star’ that Ellie and her friend, Charisse call. He’s name wasn’t really Rock Star but Lucas Haresco. Lucas is their officemate and an Office Crush that even Ellie liked.
Conflict: Something was wrong with Ellie and Don’s relationship that Ellie noticed but she did not complain. It was Holy Week and Ellie and Don went out for a Visita Iglesia. They went to Ellie’s university’s church. After they prayed, Don initiated to talk to Ellie about their relationship. Ellie was surprised that Don will break up with her in her church. Don said that she fails in relationships. That she doesn’t have passion and they are better as just friends. Ellie told all her friends what happened and how Don broke up with her. Her friends started to hate but she is always defending him.
Climax: Ellie chopped her hair and made a resignation letter. Her
