The book is set somewhere in the United States in the future past the year 1990, as the book states there have been two atomic wars since 1990. At first, he feels comfortable with his job, but when Mildred tells Montag that Clarisse is “gone”, Montag starts to have thoughts on the questions Clarisse asked him (Bradbury 23). “”How did it start? How did you get into it? How did you pick your work and how did you happen to think to take the job you have?”” Clarisse asks Montag (Bradbury 47). This makes him take a new perspective on his life setting him on his journey to find the truth about his society. While Montag is going through the events, the stress rises within…

Clarisse McClellan probably affects Montag the most in the story. For example, when Clarisse is talking to Montag outside of their houses she asks him, “Are you happy?” (10). At first, this question makes Montag laugh. Of course he is happy. Why wouldn’t he be happy? After a while however, Montag really starts to think about the question and he realizes that he really is not happy. There is something missing in his life, he just doesn’t know what yet. Another example of how Clarisse affects Montag is when she shows Montag the trick with the dandelion that shows whether you are in love or not, and according to the dandelion, Montag is not in love (22). Montag, hearing this is shocked and says that of course he is in love. Hearing this from Clarisse is what helps him to realize that he really isn’t in love with Mildred. Although Clarisse’s appearance is but a short one in the story, she hugely affects Montag’s life.…

To start Montag was able to remember where he met Mildred, and he realized how much he missed her now that she was gone. He pictured her looking into her hotel room’s parlor walls, staring at the walls when suddenly they go blank and turn into a mirror. “She saw her own reflection there, in a mirror instead of a crystal ball, it was a wildly empty fave, all by itself in the room, touching nothing and eating itself.”. As if in that half of a second before Mildred died, she figured out that the walls were nothing, they were not her family or her friends, just actors. This is effective because it shows how mildred changed to even though it seemed she was crazy at the start, it showed another side to her and that she has feels that the readers haven’t seen until the very end of the book.…

In the classic novel Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury there are many similarities to today’s world. Technology entertains many just like today. Citizens still have work, and school, but there are some things that are different. Knowledge and books are considered dangerous and creative minds are labeled crazy. I think Ray Bradbury was trying to show us how important knowledge is and if we stop using it the world will change. I think today's society is more appealing because people can be creative and not be prosecuted for it. That is why I am glad I live in today’s society.…

Although many may strive to develop a utopian society, this ideal is only an unattainable dream that can never become reality; a wish that can never be brought to life. As many aim for this unrealistic ideal, many utopian societies first appear as is; a perfect society with a flawless government and harmonious people- at least on the surface. But when we are provided with a closer look at this supposed utopian society, it is revealed that, at some point in time, this society slowly began to spiral downwards. It would soon develop into a dystopian society where social values and standards have become greatly distorted and skewed. When applying the themes in this book to our current society, comparisons can be drawn in areas such as technology, social interactions and education in both societies.…

Montag’s first awakening was when he meets Clarisse, a 17 year old outcast in his society. She asks him if he is happy. At that point, he is in denial and says yes. That was when she first started questioning him. She also asks Montag if he and his wife Mildred love each other. At first, he denies it by saying “I am, very much in love!” (20) He asks Mildred where they first met, showing he was really affected by this question. When she gives him no response, he feels a little hurt. This shows me that Clarisse almost stirred a sudden realization that something was missing in his life. I also think that his question to Mildred shows that he was still in a bit of denial. He was almost trying to find a light in their dark relationship. It also shows the effect of Clarisse’s questions on Montag’s sudden change of thinking towards his life and the society around him. Before Montag met Clarisse, he was passive, like everyone else in his dystopian society.…

“Sometimes writers write about a world that does not yet exist. We do it for a hundred reasons. (Because it’s good to look forward, not back. Because we need to illuminate a path we hope or we fear humanity will take. Because the world of the future seems more enticing or more interesting than the world of today. Because we need to warn you. To encourage. To examine. To imagine.) The reasons for writing about the day after tomorrow, and all the tomorrows that follow it, are as many and as varied as the people writing” (Gaiman). Some writers compose books about future utopias just for their own delight and amusement, but others may incorporate their thoughts onto pages of books as a way to send out a message…
