FFA Reflection Essay
I have experience being in leader in a few main aspects of my life; through community service, FFA, and at my job. Some of the valuable leaderships traits that I obtained and strengthened are: being a good team member, communication skills, solving conflicts, and being opened minded to new ideas and thoughts. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. My biggest community service achievement was refurbishing the putt-putt. “The Putt-Putt Project” is something a fellow peer and I worked on nearly every day after our junior year of high school. Lizett Sanchez and I were chosen by the Texas Midwest Community Network, or TMCN, to be the representatives for Dublin High School for working a community service project. Our task was to choose a “bright spot,” plan and complete our project before October 11th, 2016. Lizett and I began searching right away and decided upon refurbishing the mini golf at our city park. I have been a part of FFA since my freshman year when I accidentally agreed to join the Floriculture CDE team. Ever since then, I was hooked. While I have been in FFA I have gained more leadership skills than I thought possible. I was president on my chapters opening and closing ceremonies team so I had to step up and be my fellow member’s leader. I had to make sure everyone was there for practice, we were always on topic, and that we were prepared for the contest. Before I joined FFA one of my greatest fears was public speaking, but I overcame that fear through a little hard work and determination and became our chapter’s creed speaker. Doing this career development event really helped me because I gained confidence in myself, leadership skills, and I even went on to place 5th in West Tennessee.…

My strongest leadership qualities include sympathy for others, perseverance, and motivation. When I see others in need of help, I am able to sympathize with them and I become motivated and driven to seek help for them. I persevere, and give my best effort until I feel I have done what I can. My leading by example inspires others to pitch in too, and together we can rise up to the cause. This can be seen in many famous instances of bravery and leadership, such as with Dian Fossey and her fight to end gorilla slaughter. These qualities are very important not only to be a good leader, but a good person as…

It is difficult to narrow down the many instances where I have showed great leadership but many can be found in my involvements in teamwork. I have been looked to as a leader and have taken responsibility for various group projects. Often, I have had to sacrifice my own free time and personal desires for the benefit of the group. I believe this is the most important part of being a leader, the ability to sacrifice individual time and desires for the overall gain of the people that you are leading.…
