FBLA Experience Paper
The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), an organization and club at many schools, of the Inland Section once again hosted the Inland Section Leadership Conference (ISLC) in Los Osos High School on February 4, 2017. During the ISLC, students from several schools came to Los Osos to participate in a variety of competitive events ranging from testing on computers to giving speeches. At the end, there was an awards ceremony that honored the top placers, usually top ten, in each event.
As a new member of FBLA, this whole event was a new experience for me. As I arrived at the entrance of Los Osos at 6:50 a.m., I saw a fairly empty school, but there were still FBLA members from other schools as well as our own walking in. Of course, as “business

The theater was quite filled, and some schools “competed” with chants. Once we all settled down, the Opening Session began and we listened to the different speeches of some FBLA members. After every speech, the FBLA members decided to create a clapping system of clapping three times in rhythm instead of clapping randomly. We truly are business leaders on a mission trying to lead people and develop a clapping system. After the opening session, all of the FBLA members exited and began to line up for the In-N-Out food trucks, despite the fact that there were about 15 minutes before the burgers were given out. Once we ate lunch, I went to back studying for …show more content…
Since I knew that I most likely did not do well on Business Calculations, I was not expecting to place anywhere near the top ten. However, I really wanted to place top six for Agribusiness because it would mean I qualified for the State Leadership Conference. In addition, I did not want to let all of the hard work I put into Agribusiness go to waste.
Once the announcements for the top ten began for Agribusiness, I anxiously waited. As the number of people called up increased, I was still waiting, and it made me much more nervous. Finally, near the end of the announcements, I was called up. I was quite surprised because I thought I missed too many questions to even be in the top ten. Once I got up onto the stage, it was time to see how well I did against the other FBLA members.
One dropped out. I was still up there. Another one. I was still up there. And finally, my name was announced. I earned fifth place, which was a huge shock to me. I expected myself to place a lot lower, but I was able to beat 27 other people in this event and place high enough to qualify for state, which made me really proud and happy that all of that studying paid

To fulfill my three-hour field experience, I observed in Kristen Yenchak’s Emotional Support (BASD) classroom at Bloomsburg Middle School, on September 21, 2016 from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Kristen Yenchak’s classroom was made up of nine students ranging from sixth to eighth grade. There were also two paraprofessionals in the classroom to help students when they came to the class and also go and assist students while they are in general education classes. By having two paraprofessionals and one teacher in the classroom it allowed for the class to have instructional sizes of 1:1 or 1:3. All nine students except for one student only came to the class for homeroom, one other period of the day, and right before dismissal. The only other time these students…

FLSA requires observance with payment of minimum wage. The federal minimum wage according to the US department of Labor "for covered nonexempt employees is $5.15 per hour. The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Many states also have minimum wage laws. Where an employee is subject to both the state and federal minimum wage laws, the employee is entitled to the higher of the two minimum wages." (www.dol.gov) FLSA does not take the place of any state or local laws that are more favorable to employees. For Example, in the state of California, minimum wage is 6.75/hour, so the employee would profit from taking the larger of the two hourly wages. The FLSA explains "no employer shall employ any of his employees for a workweek longer than forty hours unless such employee receives compensation for his employment in excess of [forty] hours . . . at a rate not less than one and one-half times the regular rate at which he is employed." (Law enforcement…

One idea I have that I want the National Secretary's Council to implement is for Council participate in Chapter meetings, whether it be in person or through video calling, and to record minutes. This could, in turn, help the chapter secretary or chapters learn how to keep efficient and organized minutes on chapter activities. Council Members working together with chapters across the nation can help FBLA be one, connected organization. Another idea that could be implemented is editing the resources provided by FBLA, and assuring that they are up to date, and easily accessible to anyone. This could be very beneficial to newer chapters and advisers who are just getting started. Crucial information, like scholarships, news and updates can be relayed…

On October 12th I volunteered in union with the Multicultural Center at the annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration, the apex of a series of events that took place across Hispanic Heritage Month, helping to educate the campus about Hispanic culture. The celebration took place in the Galaxy rooms in the SU from 7to 9pm which featured a talent show, a country flag display, a mariachi performance, a poetry recitation, followed by a traditional cultural meal. I chose to volunteer at this event because I have always been a strong promoter of diversity and these events provide an outlet for cultural expression and educating the student body about different cultures. During the celebration I was responsible for greeting/signing in guest at the and…

One of my proudest accomplishments I have achieved in my life was receiving my first superior rating in the Solo and Ensemble competition in 9th grade. The Solo and Ensemble competition is where students are able to form small groups or remain solo and perform a piece of music for an adjudicator. In my group with a cello, viola, and violins I was performing as one of the two violins. I remember my group would rehearse everyday at school for a couple months and would work hard each time to sound better. I also put in lots of practice outside of school to achieve an exceptional sound in order for our group to sound best as possible. When it came time to perform at the Solo and Ensemble competition our group had sounded even better than when…
