F. Scott Fitzgerald's Bernice Bobs Her Hair
“Bernice Bobs Her Hair” is a short story written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The short story is about a modest and shy young woman who is pressured, by her cousin, to cut her hair in order to gain popularity. During this time, it was a wild thing for women to cut their hair so Bernice was guaranteed to get a lot of attention but it all backfires. The short story was turned into a film in 1976. The film perfectly captures the wild lifestyle of the Jazz age that Fitzgerald had created. Although the film and the short story portray the same plot, there was some difference in the characterization of the characters. Throughout the short story I think Bernice completely changed into the type of woman Marjorie wanted her to be, but in the movie I felt

I believe the movie was told very differently than the book because a movie director is entertaining a different audience than an author of a book. A director has different goals and thoughts to portray than the original book. The director is given certain artistic freedoms to help better connect with the audience and sometimes that makes the story change a little…

The story “Bernice Bobs Her Hair”, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, has a happy ending. In the 1920s, Bernice, a pretty, quiet, and reserved girl came to stay with her wild, fun, and popular cousin Marjorie. When Bernice was staying at her cousin’s house, she went through a lot of, what could be considered, bullying. Marjorie, and her friends constantly talked behind her back saying things like: “So many people have told you how pretty and sweet she is, and how she can cook! But what of it?…

The number one thing I noticed in the movie that was different in the book is that Carine (his sister) tells the entire story. During the book though, the narrator position changes between interviewers and people he met. I think that by having Carine tell the story, the movie was a little more understandable. The book was a little complex because it is hard to determine who is telling the story.…

I believe that the book and the movie version of Our America have more differences than similarities because there were a lot of things that were different. For example, in the book the story of how 5 year old Eric Morse got dropped out of the 14th floor window was different from the story in the movie. In the movie it…

In both the book and the movie, the plot is very similar but is also different. They both have lots of similarities and lots differences. In the book and movie, the plot is similar in the way that Leslie dies when use swings across the creek. It is different in the way that in the movie, Jess gets his hopes up to become the fastest kid in his class, than Leslie comes along and beats him. The plot also changes because the movie has less time to fit everything in that is in the book.…

Moreover, another change from character in the novel is the way Marlowe seems to attract women everywhere he goes. I think that Marlowe in the novel is gentle enough to attract women, but he is unrestrained enough to not care. However, in the movie he does: he loses his heart to Vivian. A lot of their dialogue is very humor. Their insults and rude comments shows their desire to flirt with each other; in the novel they seem sincere. Later Marlowe brings Carmen home from Geiger's and unlike the book, Vivian helps Marlowe to settle down Carmen. This way they get to exchange more humor dialogue. In addition, it's hard to ignore the greatest part between the novel and the movie: the nightclub scene between Vivian and Marlowe. Vivian implies him that "depends on who's in the saddle." Then Marlowe kisses Vivian on the ride home.…

Both the movie and the short story share these themes; they also have multitude similarities, but also have just as many differences. Despite Marjorie’s modern views and interesting personality, in terms of her actions and character, she is the worst person in “Bernice Bobs Her Hair.” Throughout the story Marjorie is harsh and unsympathetic to her cousin Bernice. When the two cousins discuss their views on women, Marjorie completely rejects Bernice’s ideas and values. Marjorie doesn’t show any sympathy for Bernice when she says, “You little nut! Girls like you are responsible for all the tiresome colorless mariages” (Fitzgerald 47). Marjorie doesn’t realize that Bernice’s beliefs aren’t her fault and mindlessly rants and targets her cousin without putting any thought into Bernice’s…
