EYMP 5: Support children's speech, language and communication 1 Understand the importance of speech, language and communication for children's overall development.
The importance of speech, language and communication is the ability to express thoughts and feelings and to be able to develop friendship bonds. The ability to communicate effectively underpins most other aspects of life including, learning, social emotional and behavioural.
Explain each of the terms:
Speech is described as being the way in which people communicate verbally. The ability to speak and to vocalise communication is very important in the making of attachment bonds. Without this vocalised method of communication it can be suggested a child is not following the typical rate of development. However those with such disabilities or impairments can also develop their own methods and patterns of speech. Speech is categorised as being in many vocal forms. e.g. babies as young as birth are able to cry and make cooing sounds, this is said to be a communication method to alert parents/ carers that they may be hungry etc. speech is very vast and knows no bounds, there are hundreds of different accents and

This gives the individual the ability to express thoughts, feelings and needs. Communication is used on a daily basis and is used from the moment a person is born. Communication is categorised in to two separate areas, non-verbal communication and verbal communication both of which are crucial in the normal development of a child.The many forms in which communication is expressed is vast.Communication is a crucial part of development as it provides the ability to socialise with others. The reasons why people communicate is to convey their own thoughts and feelings and to verbalise instructions, without the ability to communicate, normal day to day life could prove very challenging and
