“Science contributes moral as well as material blessings to the world. Its great moral contribution is objective, or the scientific point of view. The means doubting everything except facts; it means hewing to the facts, lets the chips fall where they may.” (163)…
Disease has always been man’s number one predator. Even with sophisticated technology, our loved ones still pass away due to natural diseases. Scientific discovery helps catalyze the combat against these diseases to improve the quality of life. In the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, author Rebecca Skloot effectively shows how medical professionals develop scientific discoveries to cure diseases all over the world by emphasizing their effort. Skloot also effectively signifies how Henrietta didn’t complain about the medical treatment that she received, but rather was happy with the resources available to her.…

Good morning young ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to what will be an exciting year for you all and I also commend all of you for choosing science as your undergraduate subject for this year. I am Professor John and today I will be discussing with you the importance of choices. More specifically, the role of science and the ones who control its power. This, ladies and gentleman, relates directly to all of you, the future generation of people in the scientific field. The knowledge of science, I believe, is the most powerful asset anyone can hold. This is because, one who has knowledge that could potentially change…
Have you ever found a character, maybe in a tv show, or book, that you can relate to the most (especially by a landslide)? Some people could say yes to the moon and back, while some people have never related that much to a character in their life. For me, I’m more of the former, and I found a character to relate to in To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee; Scout Finch. To explain, Scout and I take longer than others to understand things, which could cause frustration in others (mainly peers), and we’re both put under at least some pressure to be more “lady-like”. There’s other similarities too, but they’re either not as significant or I couldn’t find as much quotes to support them.…
The Lewis Thomas Prize winner most certainly took advantage of using his own struggles of understanding science to portray how he isn’t so different from his ordinary readers. “When I came to college from my Ohio home town, the most intellectually unnerving thing I discovered was how wrong many of my assumptions were about how the world works—whether the natural or the human-made world” (Gawande 2). He creates a link between the audience and himself via building a sense of relation in which people will be more…
In chapter 3, He describes an experiment to test natural bacteria in salt marshes with ribbed mussels. It demonstrated that scientists pay very little attention to the philosophical contours in their research. Richard believes most science…
At this time, pro-cure and pro-death protesters were fighting more and more aggressively for and against the cure respectively. Just like the religious right fought against the stem cell research in chapter 6 of Dickenson’s bioethics in 2001, the religious devotees’ fight against the anti-aging cure and the Vatican issues a condemnation against it. Underground treatments known as black market cure were being perpetuated. Eventually John Farrell, the narrator got the cure at one of these underground markets. Within two weeks or there about, he convinced his friend to get the treatment and thereafter encountered a couple of tragic events associated with a mysterious woman that influenced his emotions throughout the story. Finally, the cure was legalized.…
What is extraordinary rendition? Rendition usually means to transfer someone from one country to another, outside all judicial or administrative due process. Under this practice, the CIA is delivering terror suspects into the hands of foreign intelligence services without extradition proceedings. It has been practiced and will continue to be practiced between countries that do not have extradition agreements to cover such accusations of torture.…

Knowledge, the key to progress, has proven to be a human being’s most powerful and significant weapon. We gain knowledge when we put our brain to work at the problems we need to solve in life. It doesn’t matter what we are trying to accomplish, whether it be creating a new technology or learning how to put together a puzzle, the matter of fact is that both request great examination and research to resolve and learn. Scientific research is a technique used to investigate phenomena, correct previous understanding, and acquire new knowledge. Knowledge could lead us to a possible cure for cancer, an alternative for fossil fuels, and the creation of a revolutionary technology. Nevertheless, all these benefits are a reason why John M. Barry writes about scientific research with admiration, curiosity, and passion in which he blends a use of rhetorical strategies in order to give off an overall perspective of the necessity and mystery within scientific research.…

In the article “Put a Little Science in Your Life” the author, Brian Greene, expresses how science is such a magnificent study, but yet is not catching the attention of youth today. In today’s education system students aren’t looking at science in the big picture, but are merely looking at it as another course they are required to pass. Greene expresses to his reader’s that science is everywhere, and that everything created is somewhat made up of science. In the school room, teachers are given an agenda to follow and told to stick to that agenda. This agenda does not catch the interest of all, or any of the student’s in which they leave the class with a cold and/or dull feeling towards science. Greene expresses to his readers that Science is…
