Exploring Different Data Collection Methods

Abstract:

Statistics is the science of gathering, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data. The objective of statistics is to exact information from data. Data are the observed values of a variable. There are many methods for collecting data and there are two main types of data, i.e. primary data and secondary data. In this paper, we are exploring different type of data collection methods and each method has advantages and disadvantages which depend on the objective and nature of the purpose of collected data.

Data are the observed values of a variable. The values of the variable are the possible observations of the variable. A variable is some characteristic of a population or sample. Data collection are the process of collected information from some persons or in other ways to obtain valuable information for important decision making, to provide vital important information to others and to keep on record for further use. There are two main types of data which are primary data and secondary data. For primary data, they are collected in the first time and fresh, it is the most original data that have not use for any statistical test before, they are surveys, interviews, direct observation or focusing groups. While secondary data are already collected by someone else and used for statistical process at least once, they are mobile phone, telephone, emails, etc. There are various types of data collection method; they are surveys, experiments and direct observation. Firstly, survey is one of the most familiar methods to gather information from population concerning on various aspect such as products opinions, income, age range, family size, etc. Market researchers make use of this kind of survey result to know the preference and
