Preface
Abstract
This assignment reveals the possibilities in a new way of interacting with media. Exploring the way that humans and machines communicate combined with motion capture technology. Translating body movements into numbers, numbers that are manipulated into commands that generate an immersive environment where relationships are created between movement, speed and form.
Natural User Interfaces (NUI) or Gestural Based Technology like touch screens, interactive projectors and the Microsoft Kinect sensor have recently emerged as a simple but expressive move towards human-computer interaction, as more motion capture devices are being used in video games, interactive simulations, and immersive environments.
In this project I explore the use of a motion capture device (kinect) for recognition of body movement as a primary element for creating an immersive environment, where interactive pieces of art are generated in real time.
The project proposes a new interactive medium that is based on real time interaction between human and machine. A medium that makes the environment establish the conditions within which the interaction takes place. It is within these conditions that the users are called upon to use their body to interact with what they see and receive feedback in real time.
