Explain Why Juvenile Delinquents Should Not Be Tried The Same Way As Adults
Juveniles should not be tried the same way as adults are for the crimes they commit to a certain degree. For many kids being a juvenile delinquent isn’t even entirely their fault. Juveniles also just aren’t at the right mindset to be going to prisons at young ages. There are other courses of action that can be taken to help the troubled child out other then locking them up like adults. A juvenile is a child under the age of 18 but in some states the maximum age is 16 (find law), a juvenile delinquent is a child who has committed crime/s many juvenile delinquents commit crimes because, that’s just how they were taught. Children living in bad parts of a city or state will be subjected to more illegal things than kids growing up in better neighborhoods. Because, the law is looked at allot closer in the good cities where it isn’t so harsh. Because of this juveniles are becoming delinquents to “fit in with the crowd” they don’t want to be an outcast because there …show more content…
A juvenile does not belong behind bars with serious criminals because they are being subjected to more harmful things whilst in prison. Many prisons are not broken up into sections of severity like in the TV shows and what not, instead they are all together. You could have a rapist and someone who got caught selling a little pot in the same cell. That’s pretty crazy once you throw a juvenile in prison. Inmates in prisons are really dangerous too. If you make someone in prison who has a life sentence mad, they’re going to come back at you. A murder to them doesn’t seem like anything because they already are going to be in the prison for the rest of their lives so why does it matter.(Robert Evans, Cedric Colemen) If a juvenile gets stabbed to death in a prison or killed that just brings up an investigation for the prison and often times no one speaks because of fear then the prison ends up getting sued for nothing being done about the

Many people around the nation have different views on the subject of juvenile justice. Some believe that despite the children's age, they should still be tried as an adult if a serious crime is committed. On the other hand, some believe children should not be tried as adult even if they commit a rather serious crime. I firmly that these children should not be sentenced to life in prison despite the serious crime that they have committed and should have another shot at life when their brain is fully developed.…

Typically, juveniles who display a propensity for committing crime will continue to do so, even as they get older. Their crimes may even become more serious in nature. Therefore, teens that commit heinous crimes should be punished for their obnoxious behavior. In “Juvenile Doesn’t Deserve Life Sentences” by Gail Garinger, he states that “a juvenile doesn’t deserve life in prison because most teens haven’t reached their full maturity”.…

Only if the delinquent act is considered dangerous, it may be considered a crime and a juvenile may be tried in criminal adult court. Most times a juvenile that is charged with a crime will have an adjudication hearing where the judge will hear the evidence against the offender and the judge is the one that decides whether the juvenile is delinquent. After that the court decides what action will be taken against the juvenile. Whereas, in the adult system the basic goal by the court is to punish the offender not rehabilitate them. A juvenile delinquent, the goal is to rehabilitate them, possibly teach them a trade and give them an education so that when they are released they can either continue their education or get a job. Another difference is the fact that juvenile records are sealed whereas adult criminal records are public knowledge they do this to protect the juvenile from public scrutiny. Adult criminals are sentenced to a certain amount of time in adult prison for their crime; depending on the crime they could receive up to life without parole juvenile delinquents must be released by their twenty-first birthday no matter what the…

There are many laws that specifically prohibit teen and adolescent under the age of 18 from doing many things and are there to “protect” us. There is always a punishment when they are broken. The same should apply, if a juvenile is to commit a heinous crime like homicide or first-degree murder, they should be tried and sentenced for the crime. Therefore, I do agree that juveniles should be tried as an adult when they commit the same crimes as that of an adult.…

More and more teens are doing time alongside adults in prison recently after 100s years of adolescents committing serious crimes. Most juveniles tried as adults usually become reoffenders, they are not mature enough for adult jails, and they deserve another shot. Ultimately, the Juvenile Justice System was invented exactly for this purpose.…

I feel the law should be abolished is that the juvenile can be charged as an adult in the legal court system. The traditional rule is that anyone who is under 18 is a juvenile and will be tried in the juvenile court system. However, in certain circumstances, almost every state now allows for youths below the age of 18 to be tried as an adults. Some states give juvenile court judges to power to have juvenile’s case tried in adult criminal court. Some states give power to prosecutors the power to decide whether or not a juvenile will be tried as an adult. In some states,…

Children are not just born delinquents; by law, a juvenile delinquent is a person under the age of eighteen who is found guilty in a court of law for committing some sort of crime. Juveniles are normally products of circumstances, chance, and their surroundings. Juvenile offenders sometimes commit crimes that are equal to or of higher quality than those of adults; however, punishing them as adults in adult prisons will do no justice; they are less competent to stand trial, adult prisons can harm them mentally, physically, and emotionally, and they more often than not choose the actions they do because of…

I don’t think there is one juvenile living that is ready to be in a prison environment, it’s not anything that you can train for and I am also concerned about if the juvenile will receive the proper medical and mental health services. But for a juvenile to be on death row is very disturbing. Juveniles are young and juveniles haven’t gotten a chance to explore and actually live their life so this is a sad scenario. I don’t think there is any crime even a homicide or armed robbery is worth putting a juvenile on death row. The judge should have some sympathy and issue out a split sentence before even considering death row for a juvenile. The famous quote “if you can’t do the time don’t do the crime” is very serious but I think the system should be lenient and have some sympathy for…

Juveniles are considered juveniles and should be given juvenile punishment unless it's for something inhumane, such as murder. The United States of America has the highest teen murder rate out of every country. The reason is due to guns being easy to get, the amount of violence they see today, and the T.V. programs shown. The 2012 Supreme Court decision to abolish mandatory life in prison for juveniles who commit murder was not a just decision, because teens should know better. They're old enough to know murder is wrong. Our country should give teens the punishment they deserve for the crime they commit. Murder deserves a life sentence whether a juvenile or grown adult.…

“Campaign for Youth Justice (CFYJ) claims that placing juveniles in adult jails increases the likelihood that they will later be re-arrested for more serious crimes. Thus, the organization reasons, the practice of prosecuting juveniles as adults decreases public safety and should be abandoned”. This organization is stating that if a child is sent to an adult prison it will not help the individual or society. They claim that a rearrest is imminent. If the child is instead sent to a treatment facility they may gain the tools necessary to not become a repeat offender. Therefore making them less of a threat to themselves and the public. Another example of why children should not be tried as adults is jails are not a safe place for the youth and can give the child yet another traumatic experience. “It is extremely…
