Explain Why Guns Should Not Be Banned
Guns have been a part of society for thousands of years. According to pbs.org the first recorded use of a firearm was in 1364(pbs.org) .They are used for a myriad of reasons. Some people use guns for protection from those who pose as a potential threat to their lives. Other people use guns as a toy which can result in accidental death;or time spent behind bars for using the gun to commit a heinous crime. There is currently a ton of controversy surrounding whether guns should or should not be banned. Guns should not be banned worldwide because they are used for self defense, part of the second amendment, punish honest citizens. Lastly, guns don't kill people it’s the people who use them. Self defense is defined as the defense of one’s person or interests, through the use of physical force which is allowed in certain situations as an …show more content…
The second amendment states the following “protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense within the home” (supremecourt.gov). If guns are banned part of natural god given rights are being taken away. For years Americans such as Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks and Malcolm X just to name a few fought for civil rights which included the right to vote, shop wherever we want and buy whatever we want. Essentially, if guns are banned all of their efforts to establish equality pretty much will go in vain. As the old cliche goes one person can ruin it for everyone and that is not fair. Nobody told Joe Blow to steal a gun and rob a bank because he is having financial issues. Nobody told Joe Blow to kill his ex wife because she felt the need to file for a divorce.
